Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame, Bollywood’s most beloved music composer and singer, passed away earlier today in Mumbai. He was 42. According to media reports, Wajid tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago and also underwent a kidney transplant a few months ago. Wajid had reportedly been on a ventilator after being hospitalised recently.
Singer Sonu Nigam confirmed the news and shared it on his Twitter handle. He wrote, “My brother Wajid left us.” Music director Salim Merchant in his statement to a media publication said that Wajid was admitted to Surana Hospital, Chembur and his health was deteriorating, “He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection…he was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse.”
Bollywoood Mourns Beloved Music Composer’s Demise
Actor Salman Khan’s new songs ‘Bhai bhai’ and ‘Pyaar Karona’ composed during the lockdown were Wajid Khan’s recent and last work. The composer duo Sajid-Wajid, sons of legendary tabla player Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan, made their debut in Bollywood in 1998, scoring a song in Salman Khan starter Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. The duo shot to fame after they worked with Salman for Dabangg in 2010.
B-Town celebrities expressed their grief over social media. Fellow music composers, singers and actors from the industry have taken to social media to express their grief. Here’s what they are saying:
