The world’s largest democracy is counting the days to its general election. With opposition parties determined to turn the tables for ruling party BJP, this is an important battle for the country. BJP released its manifesto on April 8 and while every point specified in it was debatable, there was one in particular that stood out.

The BJP manifesto set 75 goals that the party plans to achieve by 2022, the 75th year of Indian independence. It focused on security, Jammu and Kashmir, terrorism, farmer incomes and the National Register of Citizens, among other things.
However, BJP made a major goof-up in its manifesto, which stated that the party’s government has made strict provisions ‘for transferring the laws in order to commit crimes against women’. “We have constituted the Women’s Security Division in the Home Ministry, and have made strict provisions for transferring the laws in order to commit crimes against women, in particular in a time-bound investigation and trail for rape.” There was another typo in the manifesto which said that BJP promises time-bound ‘trail’ for rape instead of ‘trial’ for rape.
Minutes after the party released its manifesto, the Congress pointed out the error on Twitter. “At least one point in BJP’s manifesto reflects their true intentions,” the party said, while underlining the incorrect English. The party used the hashtag #BJPJumlaManifesto while sharing this tweet.

Even Congress social media national convenor, Hasiba Amin, posted a snide tweet pertaining to the party’s blunder, “Dear BJP, Freudian slip?”
Although this was (presumably) a typing error, people noticed this gaff and started sharing the screenshot on Twitter with the hashtag #WomenBewareOfBJP, expressing concerns over BJP’s agenda.
However, the soft copy of the manifesto released on the internet reportedly doesn’t have these errors.
