These days every road, especially in Gurgaon and South Delhi, is flooded either with water or cars, trucks, buses, two-wheelers and autos. As soon as the first few drops of rain hit the concrete, Delhiites get ready on Twitter to complain about water-logging and traffic jams in their part of the city. Radio stations are more about traffic updates and weather reports than songs. The constant ‘Heavy congestion ahead’ reminders on Maps become more annoying than missed calls from mom.
Did You Know? Delhi has recorded 156.5 mm of rainfall in July so far, which is 4% more than the 30-year average of 149.8 mm, officials said.
While the temperature is going down, there’s not much relief because humidity levels are rising, making travel by public transport all the more uncomfortable. Metros are flooded as commuters try to save money and avoid traffic on roads. Cabs are hard to get, and if you do manage to book one, the average price, say from Gurgaon to Delhi, is equivalent to a year worth of hair trimming appointments.
So, while stuck in one such traffic jam that took me nearly five hours to reach from Gurgaon to Rohini, I decided to make the best out of the situation. Here are the best memes and Twitter reactions to the #DelhiTraffic crisis that are frustratingly funny.
