I Shall Give It My All: Taapsee Pannu Will Portray Mithali Raj In Cricketer’s Biopic

On the day of her 37th birthday, former Indian skipper Mithali Raj has more than one reason to celebrate. Saand Ki Aankh actor Taapsee Pannu announced today that she will be portraying the role of Mithali in her biopic, Shabaash Mithu, which will be directed by filmmaker Rahul Dholakia.

The actor shared the news on her social media handles. In the pictures, she can be seen standing beside Mithali as the cricketer cuts her birthday cake. Taapsee’s caption read, “Happy Happy Birthday Captain @mithaliraj! You have made all of us proud in more than many ways and it’s truly an honour to be chosen to showcase your journey on screen. On this Birthday of yours I don’t know what gift I can give you but this promise that I shall give it all I have to make sure you will be proud of what you see of yourself on screen with #ShabaashMithu. PS- I am all prepared to learn THE cover drive’ #HappyBirthdayCaptain (sic).”

Mithali was the captain of the Indian women’s national cricket team in Tests and ODIs (One Day International). In fact, she was the first cricketer to captain India in more than one ICC ODI World Cup final–first in 2005 and then in 2017.

The news about the biopic broke out last year, and when asked about it, Tapsee told a publication, “The script is not in place so it’s too early to talk about it. Right now, they are collecting material and the script has not been written yet. If they offer me, I will be very happy. I really want to do a sports biopic.”

The movie will be produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.

Taapsee was last seen in Saand Ki Aankh, which was a massive hit at the box-office. She will soon be seen portraying another athlete, albeit a fictional one, in Rashmi Rocket. The story is about a Gujarati girl named Rashmi, who is a fast runner. Because of this, people from her village call her “Rocket”. The poster for the movie was recently released, and we’re already excited!
