I remember when my brother introduced me to football randomly one day! He was so passionate about football and that’s why he would watch every single match with the same excitement as others would watch cricket. But knowing that India has an undying and unmatched love for cricket, Sunil Chhetri’s emotional appeal message did not come as a surprise.
Sunil Chhetri is actually the boss of football. In layman terms, Sunil Chhetri is the MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli of football.
On 2nd June, Indian Football team’s Captain Sunil Chhetri took to his Twitter account and appealed Indians to watch the game. In the video, he said, “To all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support European clubs with so much passion and sometimes you guys think that the level is not the same, so why do you waste your time? Agreed, the level is not the same, not even close but with our desire and determination, we will try our best to make your time worth.”
“To all of you, who have lost hope or don’t have any hope in Indian football, we request you to come and watch us in the stadium.”
“I mean it’s not fun to criticise and abuse on the internet. Come to the stadium, do it on our face, scream at us, shout at us, abuse us, who knows one day we might change you guys, you might start cheering for us. You guys have no idea how important you guys are and how important your support is.”
“I request you all to please come…talk about the game, go back home, have discussions, make banners. Please get involved, this is an important time and juncture in Indian football and football in India needs you guys.”
This is nothing but a small plea from me to you. Take out a little time and give me a listen. pic.twitter.com/fcOA3qPH8i

Impactful and honest, isn’t it?! It’s not a surprise that Sunil Chhetri’s emotional appeal worked wonders as the tickets were sold out within a day and the stadium for India’s second match in the Intercontinental Cup against Kenya was packed.
And like the skipper promised, the viewers were not disappointed as the home side won the match 3-0 in Mumbai. Chhetri was the hero of the game with 2 goals in his 100th international.
Sunil Chhetri was grateful to the fans and supporters for the response and he again sent a promising thank you message on social media.
We promise you that if that’s the kind of support we get every time we play for the country, we will give our lives on the pitch. India, this night was special because we were in this together. Those in the stands shouting, and the ones at home cheering – thank you!

And again, fans were all praises for his performances on Twitter.

We are sure, that Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Cristiano Ronaldo have lost some of their Indian fans to Sunil Chhetri after his 100th match and his grateful tweet.
