Sridevi Was Honoured At Cannes Film Festival But Why Didn’t Sonam Collect Her Award?

After Sridevi’s sudden demise, everyone in the Kapoor family has shown unconditional support for each other. Arjun Kapoor, his half-sisters and his cousins have come together like they were never apart. The Kapoor family’s togetherness was seen on social media and at Sonam Kapoor wedding as well.

Recently, at the 71st Cannes Film Festival 2018, Sridevi was honoured with a special salute at the Titan Reginald F Lewis Film Honours on Thursday.

There was a buzz about Sridevi’s family going to the French Riviera for the ceremony, but it was filmmaker Subhash Ghai who received the award on the behalf of the Kapoors. The filmmaker was in Cannes to announce his first international film based on Osho. He was overwhelmed to receive the honour on behalf of Sridevi’s family.

Subhash Ghai also posted on Twitter, “It was honour to receive Award on behalf of legend @SrideviBKapoor at @Festival_Cannes yesterday for her outstanding contribution in indian cinema n shared my experience with impeccable inimitable actor to western audience hosted by Titan Reginald F. Lewis film honours”

The evening was dedicated to Sridevi, with a special screening of anecdotes, memories and visual footage of her best performances in the presence of filmmakers from across the world. The global icon started working at the age of four and had acted in more than 300 films in different languages.

Recently, Sridevi was also posthumously awarded the National Film Award Best Actress category for her last Hindi film Mom. The 90th Academy Awards ceremony also honoured the actress in their ‘Memoriam’ section.

We’ve tremendous love and respect for the Kapoor family and it’s amazing that Sridevi’s work, which is keeping her alive in our memories, is being honoured. But we can’t help wondering why didn’t Sonam Kapoor collect Sridevi’s award? Boney Kapoor and daughters Khushi and Janhvi were supposed to be there but they couldn’t make it to Cannes. However, Sonam was right there – posing on the red carpet. It would have been a sweet gesture had she taken some time out to receive the award. We suspect it was a work commitment that kept her from it since she has started promoting her upcoming movie, Veere Di Wedding.

Nevertheless, we extend our congratulations to the family!
