Most star kids in Bollywood have followed their parents’ footsteps and joined the industry. Many among them worked as assistant directors to renowned directors before getting their big break. Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black, and Arjun Kapoor assisted Nikhil Advani on Kal Ho Naa Ho.
Another star kid joining the league is Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor’s darling daughter Shanaya Kapoor.
Shanaya is currently working as an assistant director for cousin sister Janhvi Kapoor’s next film Kargil Girl. Proud daddy Sanjay Kapoor shared a picture of Shanaya where her face is wrapped up with a pink scarf as she works on the sets of the film in excessive heat. He captioned it as, “My Hardworking daughter shooting in 41 degrees as an assistant director 😂😂 , warm welcome to the film industry 👻 #day20 ❤️❤️❤️”
In an interaction with an entertainment website earlier this month, Sanjay revealed that Shanaya is working as an assistant director in Kargil Girl. He said, “It’s true that Shanaya is now in Lucknow and working as an assistant on Janhvi’s film. It was a joint decision. She was very keen on doing something different to understand the space, rather than just wasting time. Before she wanted to take up a film, she didn’t want to be abroad for a three-year course. Instead, she chose something personal like this. Obviously, I’m always there to guide her. Nothing in life is better than experience.”
Sanjay rubbished rumours about Karan Johar launching Shanaya in Bollywood. He said, “There’s no truth to that. She’s just assisting on his production venture. She has not taken a call on anything yet. Yes, she’s definitely getting ready for a Bollywood career. Hopefully soon, she must work hard and land a good film. We will all wait for that. I just want her to concentrate on this for now.”
Kargil Girl is based on the life of Indian Air Force Officer Gunjan Saxena. Gunjan made history as she flew into the war zone, a feat which had not been allowed for or achieved by a woman officer in the IAF. She was later honoured with the Shaurya Chakra. The film stars Angad Bedi and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles. Reportedly, Angad Bedi will play the role of Gunjan’s brother Anshuman Saxena and Pankaj Tripathi will play Gunjan’s father in the biopic.
