Television actress Rashami Desai’s messy divorce with Nandish Sandhu was the talk of the town for a long time. In an interview last year, the actress had opened up about her mental health issues as well as her divorce. She had shared that she experienced a ‘low time’ and battled depression for almost four years at that time.
“I was in deep depression for almost four years and I really wanted to leave life. I did not want to see anybody’s face. You know when you expect something and get something else and life will give you surprises in many ways and when you are not ready to lead the reality, you somehow find it difficult,” Rashami had said during the interview in 2020.
Now, in a recent interview, Rashami divulged more details about her divorce and battle with depression. Rashami shared that the entire divorce process was ‘stressful’ and she wasn’t herself at the time. The Uttaran actress revealed that apart from judging her for her decision to divorce Nandish, everyone doubted her.
“Honestly when I was in that process, the entire process was stressful. I couldn’t deal with it. Hence, I wasn’t being myself and was trying to be someone who I was not. I was always upfront, but during that phase, everyone was doubting me. People judge you independently and not as a couple. They don’t understand that it was between two people. There must be a reason right? We got separated and the partner has moved on and I am doing good,” said the actress.
Speaking about her depression, Rashami said that her mental health issues were never acknowledged. “There used to be numbness in me. I was in depression and no one understood or took care of me. There was nobody to acknowledge my issue. My childhood was troubled, but thankfully my professional life was good. My personal life was messy but I realised that I am not answerable to anyone but me. The moment I realised things became easier,” added Rashami.
For the unversed, Rashami tied the knot with her Uttaran co-star Nandish Sandhu in February 2012. The couple got separated in 2014 and then filed for divorce in 2015. While Rashami and Nandish share a cordial relationship now, at the time of their separation and divorce things got ugly as the couple indulged in mudslinging.
Well, we’re proud of Rashami for speaking up about her mental health. More power to you, girl!
