She Was Broke: Masaba Gupta Shares Heartbreaking Excerpt From Mom Neena’s Biography

From having a child out of wedlock to restarting her career in her 50s, the life story of Neena Gupta is surely one for the books. And guess what? She has actually decided to tell it all in her autobiography titled Sach Kahun Toh. Her daughter, Masaba, recently took to Instagram to share a heartbreaking excerpt from the book. In this extract, Neena talks about how difficult things were for her at the time of Masaba’s birth.

“As my due date approached, I started to worry because I had very little money in my account. I could afford a natural birth because it would cost only Rs. 2000. But I knew if I had to have a C-section, I would be in trouble because the surgery cost almost Rs. 10000,” reads the excerpt.

Sharing the same, Masaba wrote about how she feels forever indebted to her mom for bringing her to the world and that she has been working really hard to return all that she has received from Neena and more. “When I was born, my mum had Rs 2000/- in her bank account. A timely tax reimbursement would bump that number up to Rs 12,000/- and of course I was a C-section baby. As I read mom’s biography I learn so many things & the hardships she has had to endure. I work very hard every single day of my life & never ever let anyone not give me what I deserve only to make sure I can pay her back for bringing me into this world…..with interest!” her caption read.

Just imagine the taboo associated with being a single mother in India, that too back in the 90s. Now, add to it the fact that Neena was also broke at the time of her pregnancy and you’d understand the kind of hardships she has been through. Like we keep saying—Neena is truly unlike anyone else in the Indian entertainment industry and we truly admire her for her sheer strength and courage.

Of course, every bit of her story is going to be worth reading and that’s why we are excited that her book hits the stands on June 14th. “I thought in these very difficult and gloomy times, when we are stuck at home, we are sad and anxious, maybe my book will help you tide some of the tough days,” she said while talking about her book in a recent Instagram video.
