Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife made an announcement in a recent media interview that has come as a shock to many. According to media reports, the actor’s wife, Aaliya, has sent him a legal notice seeking a divorce after 11 years of marriage.
Aaliya confirmed sending the notice to in an interview with the Indian Express, she also said that Nawazuddin is yet to reply to the notice, “I won’t be able to speak on the issues right away, but yes, we have been having problems from the last ten years. And now, during the lockdown, I got thinking and thought I had to end this marriage. I had sent him the notice much before he left for Muzaffarpur, and he has not yet replied to my notice, so I have to take a legal route now.”

Nawazuddin, who is celebrating his 46th birthday today, is staying in his hometown Budhana, Uttar Pradesh, with his family members. Nawazuddin also lost his younger sister recently to cancer. In a tweet, Nawazuddin revealed that his mother has been struggling with anxiety ever since then. He wrote, “Due to the recent loss of my younger sister, my mother who is 71-years-old, got anxiety attack twice. We have followed all the guidelines given by the State Government. We are home quarantined at our hometown Budhana. Please stay home, stay safe.”

Aaliya’s lawyer, Abhay Sahai of B. C. Dasgupta & Co, also spoke to the media and issued a statement. He said in a video statement, “Yes, it is to confirm that we have sent a legal notice to Mr Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The notice was sent on behalf of Mrs Aaliya Siddiqui on May 7, 2020. Due to unprecedented COVID-19 times, the notice could not be sent through speed post. It has been sent through email as well as WhatsApp. Mrs Siddiqui, our client, has also sent the notice through WhatsApp. However, Mr Siddiqui has not responded till date. I think he is just keeping quiet regarding the notice and ignoring it. The notice has been sent claiming maintenance and divorce. I would not like to get into the details of the notice regarding what are the contents and what are the allegations, but let me tell you that the allegations are quite serious and those are very sensitive to Mr Siddiqui as well as his family members.”
Nawazuddin and Aaliya started dating in 2004 and got married in 2009 and have two children, a nine-year-old son Yaani, and a five-year-old daughter Shora. Reportedly, Aaliya has also legally changed her name back to Anjana Anand Kishore Pandey. “There is not one reason but several reasons behind my problems with Nawaz. And, all these reasons are very serious,” she said in her interview.
The duo had a turbulent relationship and they had briefly parted ways before they got married in 2009. Nawazuddin has written about his relationship in his book, called An Ordinary Life – A Memoir.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s film Ghoomketu will have a digital release on May 22. The actor’s last theatrical release was Motichoor Chaknachoor, co-starring Athiya Shetty.
