Biopics are one of the main themes in Bollywood this year, and with the general elections knocking on the door, we have quite some ‘ahem’ sponsored content ‘ahem’ movies lined up. Anupam Kher is set to don the role of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister, while Thackeray will see Nawazuddin Siddiqui play Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.
Joining the biopic spree, it was announced yesterday that there’s one more coming this year on our current Prime Minister Narendra Modi with actor Vivek Oberoi essaying the role of the politician.

The news of the movie, titled PM Narendra Modi, caught everyone off guard, as this would be the first movie to show a sitting prime minister. (Not sure if he’ll still be sitting when the movie comes out). The first look shows the Masti actor sporting a prosthetic nose, rimmed glasses and a white beard, as well as wearing the PM’s iconic saffron kurta. Many took a jibe on Twitter at how the actor does not resemble the PM at all, while others felt that it was a fake poster. We’re just holding ourselves back, and showing great restraint. How grown-up are we?
Take a look at a few of them below.
1. To be fair, the actor’s casting was confusing given his last few movies.
Vivek Oberoi to play #PMNarendraModi in his biopic
This is the same guy who compared his character in Krrish 3 with The Legendary JOKER
I would rather waste 2 hours watching Arnab Goswami screaming on TV (on MUTE) instead of paying & watching Vivek Oberoi’s mockery pic.twitter.com/BDVyUppoUj

2. Some suggested a different casting choice.
This man looks more like Modi, than Vivek Oberoi with that prosthetic nose and all the make up. pic.twitter.com/rGfCrwJf5w

3. Others asked if the poster was real!
This is just spoof right?

4. Neither here nor there.
Wtf 😂😂🤣, he is looking neither Oberoi nor Modi#PMNarendraModi @firkiii pic.twitter.com/n94a4a4D7y

5. One Twitter user suggested Hera Pheri actor Kulbhushan Kharbanda play the role.
Kulbhushan Kharbanda looks exactly like Our PM ..why makers didnt approached him 😭#PMNarendraModi #NarendraModi pic.twitter.com/SqVNBw2aRv

6. This was a good one!
Vivek Oberoi has aged a lot in the course of these Masti movies pic.twitter.com/QY3rINJjlR

7. A definite Best Scene Award in the making, if this goes through given the Vivek’s frosty relationship with Salman Khan.

I want this scene in the film. That’s all 😂🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/EpOqVvo3lM

8. We think even the PM would agree on this one.
kurta to press kar lia hota bhai😂😂

9. There was some love of the actor as well, albeit with a pinch of salt.
#VivekOberoi in #NarendraModi biopic seems to be the kind of role that’ll revive his career.
This is the ACTUAL second innings for @vivekoberoi in Bollywood after the Salman-Aishwarya scandal.
We’re glad to have the Saathiya boy back. Pl. follow it up with a romantic role. ❣️

10. Now this would be the perfect cast for the movie’s supporting role!
I will be extremely disappointed if Saurabh Shukla doesn’t play Amit Shah in Narendra Modi biopic. pic.twitter.com/n3ZfIMMaW7

The movie’s poster was revealed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on January 7th and the film will premier in 23 languages upon completion. Omung Kumar, who had directed the Mary Kom biopic starring Priyanka Chopra, is at the helm of this project.
Interestingly, that movie saw its share of criticism as well back in 2014 upon casting Priyanka to play the six-time boxing world champion. Priyanka went on to win a Star Screen Award for best actress for her role, while the movie won a National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
The work on the Narendra Modi biopic is set to begin mid-January, while the release date is yet to be announced.
