It’s Mentally Disturbing: Mohena Kumari Shares Her Experience Of Battling COVID-19

With COVID-19 cases increasing exponentially every day, we’ve realised that the virus plays no favourites, it has no mercy. We’re all equally vulnerable to it–celebrities, politicians and businessmen. And in a country with a population crisis like India, containign the spread of the virus has been increasingly difficult for central and state governments. Despite lockdowns and restrictions in place, cases have been on an upward surge. This weekend, the number of cases in the state of Maharashtra alone have surpassed those in China.

Just a few days ago, we heard the news that TV actress Mohena Kumari of the Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame tested positive for COVID-19 along with five of her family members. The actress, her husband, her five-year-old son and her in-laws all contracted the virus. The entire family has been hospitalised in Rishikesh.

In a statement she gave to the media, she said “Yes, the news is true, seven from our family have been tested positive for COVID-19, but we are doing fine now. Right now we are in the hospital. My brother-in-law’s latest report has come negative so he’s fine now. There are people too who have been infected but they are from the sanstha. We had very mild symptoms and we thought it must be because of the change in weather.”

Talking about the emotional and mental rollercoaster that it has been Mohena said, “My mother-in-law wasn’t feeling well and suffering from fever but we couldn’t figure out the reason. The next day I started feeling unwell. There was fatigue and body ache. We all got worried. But our first tests turned out to be negative. We thought it was probably the weather but we couldn’t relax as my mother-in-law’s fever was increasing even after having paracetamol. Then we got her test done again and it turned out to be positive. Then the rest of us got our tests done and turned out to be positive. It was mentally disturbing,” she said.

At the same time, she urges all her fans and well-wishers to be in tune with their health and get tested if they suspect any symptoms. “I want to say that if you are unwell and sick, it’s best to get yourself tested instead of staying at home and worrying about it. I am happy we got the tests done. Also, if you are COVID-19 positive, trust me it’s not lethal. I had symptoms, my mother-in-law had symptoms, but it’s not going to destroy your life. On the flip side, it’s important to break the chain as it affects the elderly and the kids,” added Mohena.

Her friends and fam posted a very sweet message for the recovering actress:

In a recent Instagram live, Mohena caught up with her friend and fellow actor from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Gaurav Wadhwa, and shared more details about how she spends her time in the hospital.

Just a few moments into the chat with Gaurav, Mohena broke down into tears. Talking about how she and her husband Suyash Rawat spend time together, “We both wear masks while talking, and watch shows together,” said Mohena.

After spending 6 days in the hospital, Mohena and her fam were still not COVID-free. “We worry about my husband Suyash Ji’s parents and his nephew. More than physically, it’s mentally disturbing. Having the virus is not a good feeling well because we have heard so much about it already. I am feeling good today. Initially, things were playing upon my mind, but now my symptoms have reduced. It’s important to keep yourself mentally positive to make the virus go away. There’s no treatment that we are going through but you can make your bodies strong. I feel Indians anyway have a good diet. And are ready to fight the virus since we have good immunity,” she added.

It’s really great that Mohena is using her platform to talk about the virus and tell her fans and well-wishers to be safe and take precautions. If only more celebrities would follow suit and use their clout to spread more awareness!

Here’s wishing you and your family the speediest recovery, Mohena!
