Kangana Ranaut’s bold statements and devil-may-care attitude has landed her into countless controversies. Now that the ‘Queen’ has spoken again, she has unraveled an outright war with the Indian media. At a promotional event of her upcoming film Judgmentall Hai Kya, Kangana Ranaut lashed out on a journalist for running a “smear campaign” against her after her film Manikarnika. The journalist denied the allegations and Kangana’s remarks led to a heated argument between the two. The actress also accused him of tarnishing her brand image.
Two days after the actress’ spat with the journalist, the Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India said that it would boycott actor Kangana Ranaut. The guild wrote to the film’s producer Ekta Kapoor, and demanded that she condemn Kangana’s behaviour: “We, as a guild, have collectively decided to boycott Ms Ranaut and not give her any media coverage.” The delegation assured the producer that the boycott will not affect the film or the rest of the cast (including Rajkumar Rao). However, they declared that they will boycott Kangana from future events until the actor apologises for her misdemeanour.

Kangana’s sister/manager Rangoli Chandel said on Twitter that the actor will not apologise. She called out the journalists and labelled them anti-nationals: “Ek baat ka main vaada karti hoon, Kangana se apology nahin milegi, in bikau, nange, deshdrohi, desh ke dalal, libtard mediawalon ko. Magar vo tumko dho dho kar sidha zaroor karegi. Just wait and watch, tumne galat insan se maafi mangi hai.”

Ouch! Seems like the Ranaut sisters are at it again. They just can’t seem to keep their heads above water with the media.
However, Ekta Kapoor’s production house, Balaji Motion Pictures, released an official statement apologising for what they termed as an untoward incident: “A lot is being reported about the debate that ensued between our film JudgeMentall Hai Kya’s actor and journalist Justin Rao, at the film’s song launch event on July 7, 2019. Unfortunately, the event took an unpleasant turn. While the people involved in it fairly held their own perspectives but because it happened at the event of our film, we, as the producers, would like to apologize and express regret for this untoward incident. We would like to maintain that our intention was not to disrespect or hurt anyone’s sentiments. Our film JudgeMentall Hai Kya releases on 26 July and we urge the media to not let this one incident hamper the team effort that has gone behind making the film.”
While Kangana’s perpetual war with media doesn’t surprise us, here are a few other celebrities who were also boycotted by the media
Salman Khan
Salman Khan’s ‘I don’t give a damn’ attitude has never fared well with the media. In July 2014, he got into trouble when his security personnel roughed up the shutterbugs. In light of this, the photographers’ union planned to boycott the actor until the release of his film Kick. A photographer was also quoted saying that they won’t click Salman’s pictures even if they spot him cycling around Bandstand. Adding fuel to the fire was Salman Khan’s statement, “Those who want to cover the event are welcome to stay, the rest can leave if they wish.” It is believed that the photographers asked Salman to pose at a particular spot during the promotional event, but apparently, he refused.
Amitabh Bachchan
Big B was once banned by the press for 15 years. In his blog, Amitabh had revealed that the entire media went against him. They believed that Amitabh had a big hand in the censorship of film magazines. The superstar revealed all the shocking facts in his blog a few years back.
Shraddha Kapoor
Now now now! What would the shy and sweet Shraddha Kapoor could have possibly done to get banned by the paps? Apparently, the media banned Shraddha after she expressed her unwillingness to pose for the paparazzi. She had been turning her face away from the photographers too many times, which is how she finally invited a ban from the community. It all began when she refused to look up while on her way out of the airport. And in an incident that happened another time, she kept the cameramen hanging around on the sets of a reality TV show where she was making an appearance. Moreover, she refused to pose for them at two other events as well. However, Shraddha sorted out the matter after she met with the photographers union.
Saifeena
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor were also targeted by the media back in 2010. This incident took place when the couple had to address the media and promote a shoe brand that they were endorsing. While the media reached the venue right on time, Saif and Kareena were nowhere to be seen. The paps started fuming after extended hours of waiting. They walked in hours later but the members of the media decided to walk away instead. While Saif sincerely apologised to them and reasoned out that he was stuck in a traffic jam, the media still ended up boycotting the pair for a while.
