Recently, we told you what Karan Johar was thinking when the idea of creating the show, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives hit him. He was on a flight with the four ladies, Maheep Kapoor, Seema Khan, Bhavana Panday, and Neelam Kothari when the thought crossed his mind. And the rest, as we say, is history.
While talking about the experience, KJo said, “But I really thought that they need to be on camera because I thought that barring Neelam, who is a bona fide star and has faced the camera for 40 films, the other three were technically virgins to the camera and I think they were naturals.” We totes agree! Yep, there were moments that made us cringe hard, but we have to admit that watching those women not giving a damn about anything was fun.
However, while they didn’t care much while shooting, they had a lot of interesting thoughts while watching themselves on screen. Turns out, they found a lot of things embarrassing as well!
During a FLOBW reunion on Clubhouse hosted by Janice Sequeira, Seema said that she found a lot of things on the show illogical. She said, “Honestly, I didn’t want to look. To be honest with you, I haven’t really looked at myself on TV because everything was cringe. I was like, ‘Why am I doing this?'”
Remember when the four women were at a poolside in Doha wearing high heels? Yep, we weren’t the only ones who found it weird. Seema said, “I was like, ‘This is really moronic, guys’, but I guess it works.” The designer also commented on her gym look and turns out, she hated it. “Another thing I want to add is, please, haan, that is not how I dress to the gym. I was horrified at myself. Horrified! I was like, I can’t even look in that direction. I was really horrified,” she said.
Not just Seema, Maheep didn’t feel too comfy watching herself on screen either. She said, “I agree with Seema. Because you are seeing yourself for the first time on screen, everything was cringe for me. I was like, ‘What? My side profile looks like that? My backside looks like that?’ I was seeing myself from all angles and I was just going crazy. I thought that because we are like this with ourselves – we sit down, we have conversations–I didn’t think that people would find us interesting. So I was thinking, ‘My God! This is falling flat, this is so boring. Who wants to hear this?’ But it worked.”
In our opinion, the show more than just ‘worked‘. While a lot of people called the reality series a ‘cringe-binge’ at first, it soon became one of the most talked-about shows on Netflix India. And here we are now, eagerly waiting for its second season. Can we please get it already?!
