Midriff-Flossing Is The Hot Revival Trend In Town & You Could Style It Before Anyone Else!

Resurgence is the name of the game, especially when it’s fashion we are talking about. Just a couple of days ago, we talked about a major 90s trend that has been doing the rounds on Instagram. In the same vein, we found another one from the early noughties that will be all over your Instagram feeds soon, taking over celebrity red carpet looks to influencers and everything in between. Intrigued? Read on!

A Fashion Revival

Here’s taking a look at what we know about the new trending style and all that it means.

What Is Midriff-Flossing?

It’s probable you haven’t heard of midriff-flossing, the new trend that is going to blow up this season. Seen on a number of international runways, it comprises, as the name suggests, a bare midriff and fastenings wound up around it. Think a crop top or a bralette worn with a skirt, and tie-up details present in the latter twisted around your waist, highlighting it. Take a look at a runway still to see how it would appear when styled.

Seen on a number of Hollywood celebrities and supermodels this year, the trend was popular for a small window of time back in the 2000s too. Now, with it catching up on the international runways and off of it, there is a huge possibility that we will soon be seeing a whole lot of it (different iterations included) on Bollywood celebrities. On what occasions would it work? We decided to dig up similar looks from past Bollywood outings, ones which would be complete when merged with the raging trend. From a simple OOTD for a day out to elaborate Indian wear, here’s a reimagining of the midriff-flossing trend on Bolly celebs and all the occasions for which it would be a scene-stealer.

A Day Out In Town

Be it Janhvi Kapoor’s ultra gram white mini or Ananya Panday’s patterned and layered skirt, the actresses’ outfits would be perfect and complete with the tie-up details that make the midriff-flossing trend. When trying it out, pair it with a cropped tee like Ananya or go for a distinctive neon look à la Janhvi.

A Glam Cocktail Look

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ruched sheer skirt is what you could wear to a lit evening and, complete with a chic layer and a bandeau, there would be no stopping you. If glimmer is more your territory, Katrina Kaif’s outfit would be fit for all occasions, from cocktails to a reception. Add to all that jazz a dose of the new tie-up detail trend and voila!

Taking The Experimentation Route

Even with midriff-flossing, there is enough room for experimentation. Take cues from the skirt and bare midriff look seen on Sonam Kapoor and Kiara Advani who opted for detailed tops with surface work. Be it the tiered-ruffle look or the knot detail, we are rooting for tops to get bolder.
