Monotone fashion, that is dressing in one single colour from head to toe, is a trend that has taken 2019 by storm. Fashionistas are matching their shoes to their outfit, and sometimes even accessories, which results in a look that is neat, clean and so high-street.
You would think that nailing a monotone outfit will be easy since you don’t have to mix and match colours and patterns. All you have to do is decide upon the colour and pick everything in the exact same shade. What could possibly go wrong? Well, I will tell you. Actually, Kareena Kapoor Khan and her step-daughter Sara Ali Khan will show you. They both wore monotone recently but one of them nailed it and the other one failed it.
Kareena Kapoor Khan – Black Pantsuit

The ever-so-gorgeous Kareena Kapoor Khan wore a jet black pantsuit by Armani. She teamed it with a pair of black pencil heels with a clear strap which, by the way, are mismatched if you look at the toe shape carefully. So Begum!

Now, this pantsuit is no ordinary. Instead of a button-down or double-breasted fastening, it had an attached fabric belt with Armani’s logo embellished on it a glossy finish. Here’s an exciting way to take logomania to new levels of luxury. The accessories were kept simple yet statement-making with stud earrings.

Bebo wore this outfit to an event earlier today, the Swasth Immunised India campaign, representing the social cause as the brand ambassador. Can’t get over how fabulous she looks! Nailed it!
Sara Ali Khan – Pink Gown

Saif Ali Khan’s daughter and young debutant Sara Ali Khan wore a bright bubblegum pink gown by Monisha Jaising to an award function last night. The gown had a natural sheen that, to be honest, felt too in-the-face. The three giant bows in the front are a little too much as if the layered silhouette and thigh-high slit weren’t bold enough.
On top of that, she teamed it with matching pink pumps by Kurt Geiger bringing a whole lot of ‘gum’ (and that means two things) to our Instagram feed.

And her makeup, too, was (surprise, surprise) pink! Unlike her step-mom, Kareena who was wearing all black but she didn’t go for a smokey eye effect. Instead, she kept it natural with nude makeup. Sara, on the other hand, took the pink fever to her lips, blush and eyes too. Thank God, her rings by Diamantina Fine Jewels weren’t rose gold or pink!

Our Verdict
Kareena and Sara both were styled by the same celebrity stylist Lakshmi Lehr. Yet, the outcome of the same fashion trend that they carried off is so different. I am sure I have explained why Kareena won this round for us. Monotone can get challenging. If taken too far, it can make you look a bit off-putting and tacky.
