Earlier in September, Kalki Koechlin announced that she and her boyfriend, Guy Hershberg, were expecting their first baby. At this point, she was 5 months pregnant and we had no idea! Thrilled to be in this new phase of her life, Kalki broke the news to a leading daily in an interview. “I already feel the changes in the way I react to things. I am more deliberate, slower, more patient. When motherhood comes eventually, it brings with it a new consciousness to your sense of person. I still want to work but it is less about the rat race and more about nurturing oneself through one’s work. It becomes about infusing concentration and energy inward,” she had said.
In a recent interview with an entertainment portal, Kalki revealed how she felt the moment she found out she was pregnant and how she deals with all the opinions people have about her out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
Talking about the shocking moment in which she found out she was pregnant, Kalki said “I was like this can’t be right, its a mistake. We weren’t planning for it right now, so I immediately went and got another test done…When I was absolutely sure, I was happy but I wasn’t sure at the beginning.” Guy, on the other hand, was excited from the very first moment he found out, shared Kalki.
During the first few months of her pregnancy, the actress was shooting in Shimla. Talking about the struggles of working and juggling a secret pregnancy, Kalki revealed how she had terrible mood swings and a very valid reason for being mean and grumpy. Sadly, she couldn’t tell anyone just yet. Only her makeup artist knew. By the end of the shoot, her clothes wouldn’t fit her. It was difficult to keep it a secret at some point, “I wanted to be able to say, GUYS! I’m pregnant, that’s why I’m like this right now.”
Having a baby when you’re not married in India is always going to call for a little judgement and Kalki says “Whenever it comes to my building, my neighbours, the people around me… They all know I am not married and they have been like super, the aunties have been coming in like ‘Aapke liye kuch chaiye kya?’ They are really, really lovely and sweet. So I haven’t felt that judgment face to face but, of course, I have faced trolling.”
She revealed people have questions and opinions like, “Where’s the husband? How can you do this? Don’t wear tight clothes.” She adds, “So all of that is there but trolling happens even when you are not pregnant…that’s okay. People have their points of views. I don’t know them personally so it doesn’t affect me.”
Kalki is due in December and plans to go to Goa for a water birth. Cheers to the supermom-to-be. We wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy, Kalki!
