It has been a mere 24 hours since the teaser of Kalank launched and the internet can’t stop making memes about the cast. Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan are netizens’ favourites at the moment including Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. But our favourite is the gorgeous off-white suit Alia wore to the teaser’s launch.
Monotone, embroidery, a plunging neckline and a fancy scalloped hemline, this suit by Manish Malhotra had everything that our Indian wardrobe wants this summer. This look of Alia made me notice how she has been wearing deep necklines a lot lately.
This neck design is called the scoop neck. It is shaped like a scoop with a significant drop below the normal round neckline – just enough to display your cleavage. Looks like Alia is over her midriff phase and cleavage is the new fashion focus this season.
The neck design looks killer, especially with Indian wear. Think suits, kurtas, blouses and what not. It is super elegant and a stylish way to flaunt the ladies tastefully. Take cues from Alia, won’t you? A pair of oxidised jhumkas by Curio Cottage and a microdot bindi were all that was needed to nail the desi look.
In fact, the suit’s neck design from the back, too, was statement-making with a giant keyhole cut-out adding to its charm.
Here are all the other times Alia sported a deep neckline this year and convinced us that the classics – scoop neck and V-neck – are here to stay. She wore a plunging neckline so gracefully with both Indian wear as well as western wear!
1. To Akash Ambani & Shloka Mehta’s Wedding
Alia wore a bright yellow embroidered lehenga by Sabyasachi to the big Ambani wedding. Not only is it yellow, but the delicate lace inserts, floral embroidery and a deep V-neckline on the lehenga also scream summer. “Eternal Sunshine 🌼”, wrote Alia with this picture. Well, amen!
2. To A Media Event
You always trust a crisp V-neck design with statement-making sleeves if you want an edgy look this season. Notice how Alia chose only one piece of jewellery – a heavy choker in the previous look and tasselled earrings in this one – to accessorise her outfit. Remember – less is more. 3. To The Brahmastra Logo Launch At Kumbh Mela
The Brahmastra logo launch left quite an impression on us owing to Alia’s fun Instagram stories with boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and this super fun green suit with, to quote her stylist Ami Patel, “Spring florals 💚💚💚💚 ” on it. The suit by Anushree Reddy had an extremely sexy scoop neckline making the simple suit look extraordinary. All she needed were traditional jhumkas to complete the look.
4. To Her Bestie’s Wedding Function
You don’t have to look twice at this picture to know that its Anita Dongre couture, am I right? Alia wore this light-looking blue and yellow lehenga to her friend Devika Advani’s mehendi and trusted a cursive V-neckline to flaunt that cleavage. So tastefully done, Miss Bhatt.
5. To An Event In Delhi
And how sharp is this lounge suit by Safiyaa! When the off-shoulder sleeves and V-neck style comes together in a double-breasted blazer, magic is ought to happen.
6. For Promotions In Delhi
Alia wore this black blazer dress with just the right amount of fuschia pink sequins along the sleeves to an event in Delhi and showed us the versatility of a V-neckline. From a lehenga to a casual dress to a formal one, what can’t the mighty do?!
7. To Umang 2019
In honour of the amazing work our police department does, every year Umang is hosted to celebrate our officers. To Umang 2019, Alia wore a shining anarkali suit by Tarun Tahiliani and, we guess, that is when her love for the scoop neck design grew. We can’t blame her, the design is classy with a hint of sassy.
