Karan Johar and Kajol were Bollywood’s inseparable duo before their much talked about fallout in 2016. While Kajol has mostly remained tight-lipped on the topic, Karan had spoken up about it a number of times, and even wrote about it in his book, An Unsuitable Boy. In the book, we learnt that Kajol and KJo’s 25-year friendship ended just before the release of Karan and Ajay’s films Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay respectively.
An excerpt from the book reads, “I don’t have a relationship with Kajol anymore. We’ve had a fallout. Something happened that disturbed me deeply which I will not talk about because it’s something that I like to protect and feel it would not be fair to her or to me. After two and a half decades, Kajol and I don’t talk at all. We just acknowledge each other, say ‘hello’ and walk past.”
Cut to 2019, and it seems like it’s all water under the bridge now. Kajol and Karan have reportedly made up and are friends again. In an interview with a leading daily, Kajol spoke up about the rift between the two for the first time. She said that she felt terrible about the situation and that she was sure that Karan felt the same way.
“Yeah, that one (Karan) disappeared for a little while in the middle. He took a little sabbatical. Now he’s back. It was a horrible phase. It wasn’t a nice place to be in. I’m sure he felt the same way. I always knew that it was just a question of time. That thing would settle down. That whatever happens, we’d figure it out,” said Kajol.
“We have the rest of our lives; this was just a temporary moment in between. Now it’s back to pretty much the same. I don’t meet him as much now because he’s travelling so much, working so much and I’m also travelling and working,” she added.
Karan had written about their fallout in great detail in his book. In another excerpt, he explained how he never had a problem with Kajol, but with her husband Ajay Devgn. However, he was hurt that she sided with her husband and at one point even said that she has no place in his life anymore.
“Prior to the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, there’s a lot that happened. Things were said, crazy accusations were made against me, that I had bribed someone to sabotage her husband’s film. I can’t even say that I was hurt or pained by it. I just wanted to blank it out. When she reacted to the whole situation and put out a tweet saying, ‘Shocked!’ that’s when I knew it was completely over for me. That tweet validated the insanity, that she could believe I would bribe someone. I felt that’s it. It’s over. And she can never come back to my life. I don’t think she wants to either. I never want to have anything to do with them as a unit. She was the one who mattered to me but now it’s over,” reads the excerpt.
Well, we’re glad that these BFFs finally made up and peace has been restored to the kingdom of Bollywood again! 😉
