The king of bling and disco in India, Bappi Lahiri, has been making music for over 50 years now. Definitely not on his way to slowing down, Bappi da just spilled the beans on some of his new collaborations. And we have to say, we’re proud! He is working on two songs with Lady Gaga and one with Akon. In an interview with a leading daily, he confirmed that he is two duets with Gaga, “Yes, two duets, with her singing in English and me in Hindi in my inimitable style. We are now waiting for the release to be greenlit, hopefully by the year-end. I also collaborated with Akon two months ago. That song should also be out soon.”
The song with Akon should be out shortly and to be honest, I’m kind of intrigued to hear what that’s going to sound like. I mean the only thing Akon and Bappi have in common is probably their love for shiny Gold chains, right?
This isn’t the first time Bappi Lahiri has collaborated with international artists, though. He also has a song called Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy with popular DJ Duo, The Martinez Brothers. Talking about his collaboration with popular DJs The Martinez Brothers, Bappi da said, “It features a remix of my superhit song from Disco Dancer, ‘Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy.‘ The British-Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A. used the same song in her 2007 album, Kala and, a year later, it was also there in the climax scene of Adam Sandler-film, You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. The song took a long time to record because I introduced disco beats in Indian Antara, to come up with an innovative sound. I also experimented with a new singer, Parvati Khan. But see, almost four decades later, people around the world are still playing it as a rare tribute to an Indian composer. I’m overwhelmed and feel proud to be accorded this honour.”
He recently shared on his Instagram, the remix of his song Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy by The Martinez Brothers. Here’s the video

Now isn’t that an interesting turn of events? I don’t know about you but I’m kinda curious to listen to his collaborations with Gaga and Akon.
