Deepika Padukone currently seems to be in the eye of the storm with the fast widening Sushant Singh Rajput death probe. The case has now laid way to an investigation into Bollywood’s alleged drug nexus. It was earlier this week that Deepika’s name was raised in the ongoing investigations, shortly after which the Narcotics Control Bureau(NCB) revealed its plans of summoning the actor.
As per the latest reports now, Deepika would be taking a charter plane from Goa to reach Mumbai today and appear for questioning with NCB tomorrow. She is currently in Goa for a movie shoot and media reports also suggest that both Deepika and Ranveer have been seeking legal advice through video conferencing all this while and trying to buy some time for the actress. Here’s everything that you need to know about the ongoing probe:
How It All Started?
What started as an investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide has turned into in a drug probe now. Earlier this month, actress Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant’s girlfriend, was arrested for the procurement and consumption of marijuana by the Narcotics Control Bureau. The subsequent media reports suggested that during the custody, the actress was repeatedly probed about the alleged drug abuse in Bollywood, and she named a lot of people from the industry including actors Sara Ali Khan, Rakhul Preet, and designer Simone Khambatta.
The WhatsApp Chats
Shortly after Rhea’s arrest, Sushant’s ex-manager Jaya Saha was also probed by CBI and NCB about her connection to the alleged drug nexus. As per media reports, she also named some prominent actors from the industry. At the same time, some WhatsApp chats were retrieved from Jaya’s phone that pointed at Deepika’s involvement in procuring drugs. The chats have been going largely viral on social media. These chats are from October 2017 and as per allegations, Deepika is asking for “maal (hash)” from someone named K, who is speculated to be her manager, Karishma Prakash.
NCB Summons Deepika Padukone Along With Others Named In The Probe
On September 22, Karishma Prakash, Deepika’s manager, and KWAN talent management agency’s CEO, Dhruv Chitgopekar, were summoned by NCB in connection with the ongoing probe. Soon after, Deepika Padukone was summoned by the investingating agency.
Apart from Deepika, Sara Ali Khan, Simone Khambatta, and Shraddha Kapoor have also been summoned by NCB under Section 67 of The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and Deepika has been asked to show up for questioning on Friday.
Problematic Remarks & The Social Media Trial
While Deepika along with other actresses has been summoned by NCB, there have been no reports about seizing of any drugs in the entire narrative which makes it a dicey case for all of them as per legal experts. But then again, minor factual scruples have never hindered the social media trials that have become the norm of late.
Currently, the Indian media has directed its entire attention on Deepika Padukone while she is being heavily criticised on social media. Recently, actor Kangana Ranaut also ended up making a problematic remark on the entire case with a tweet that read “Repeat after me, depression is a consequence of drug abuse. So-called high society rich star children who claim to be classy and have a good upbringing ask their manager,” MAAL HAI KYA?”

Well, someone please tell Kangana that depression is not a consequence of drug abuse but more importantly that people remain innocent until proven guilty! We also want to know the truth but can we all please wait for authorities to do their work instead of running media trials?
