The Chief Minister of Goa and former Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar passed away on March 17 after a long battle with cancer. The BJP leader, 63, had been fighting the disease since February 2018. Over the last year, he had been treated in various hospitals in Goa, Mumbai and New York.
A graduate in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Parrikar joined the RSS at a very young age. His colleagues described him as a quintessential swayamsevak. Talking about Manohar, one of his friends said, “He had apprehensions about politics. He was concerned that he might have to take decisions that his conscience would not permit. He was squeaky clean. His image of simple, unpretentious man was not cultivated; that is who he was.”
During his two and a half years as India’s Defence Minister, Parrikar was known to be a sincere and perceptive leader and an accomplished manager.
The news of his demise was shared by President of India Ram Nath Kovind. Since Bollywood celebs have been mourning the demise of the great leader on Twitter…
