While Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death earlier this year came as a major shock to the country, it also led way to a lot of pressing discourses. From the nepotism debate in the film industry to Bollywood’s alleged drug mafia, everything was discussed and called out. At the same time, we also witnessed the rise of the social media trolls who took it upon themselves to ‘avenge’ Sushant’s death.
That said, it was definitely the women in Sushant’s life who had it worse. It started with Rhea Kapoor and soon Ekta Kapoor was targetted as well. All sorts of things were said about the two. Sara Ali Khan also had to face the internet’s ire when it was later revealed that she was romantically involved with the late actor at some point in his life. Amid it all, Sushant’s-ex-girlfriend, Ankita Lokhande was also a constant part of the online debates.
Despite the fact that Sushant and Ankita had broken up several years ago, she was first targetted for not posting any condolence message for Sushant and then faking her grief. However, the social media trolls soon came around in her favour after she started supporting the #JusticeForSushant campaign.
However, the social media trolls are treacherous like that and don’t take long to change their opinions. This is to say that Ankita is under the troll scanner yet again, this time for celebrating her own damn birthday. Yupp! You read that right. A faction of netizens is currently mad at Ankita for celebrating her birthday despite saying that she is fighting for justice in Sushant’s case. They are also miffed at the fact that Sandip Singh and Ekta Kapoor were also present at the party.
This, of course, follows no logic but then we don’t expect that from trolls who are clearly under the impression that Pavitra Rishta is still going on and thus expect Ankita to be in the sati-savitri mode forever. What we’d like to point out here is that the trolls are absolutely disregarding that Ankita is an actual person with personal life. However, given the arguments that these trolls have been raising, we doubt if they’d understand. See for yourself:
Seriously why is Ankita expected to act like she has no life to live anymore? The fact that she has been time and again trolled for posting pictures with her boyfriend proves that the people are having a hard time adjusting to the fact that she has indeed moved on in her life. Just last month, the actress was trolled for posting a dance video online. What even is all this entitlement and, more appropriately, delusion?
I mean from blaming Rhea for not stopping Sushant from taking drugs to calling out Ankita for just living her life, what exactly do these trolls expect from the women in Sushant’s life? Depending on the situation, they are either absolute Goddesses or witches and there’s never an in-between. Why does the simple fact that women can choose to move on after a relationship and have a life and career to look forward to so unpalatable for people in this country?
