It’s no secret our society likes to typecast people, bracketing them into limiting gender roles and stereotypes associated with masculinity and femininity. Like the idea that all men don’t cry is just as abysmal as the idea that all women are too emotional. But there are certain myths specifically propagated against women that stem from outright sexism, establishing the superiority of one gender over another and reducing women to individuals who are good for nothing.
Many women online have taken to the Internet to talk about such infuriating myths. Have a look:
1. “That we are bad drivers. I have had my first car for 3 years. I’m in my early 20’s. I have never crashed, but have had two men crash into me from behind. Both times I had to fight tooth and nail to the officers to believe me. Both times the blame was given to me, even when the crashes were from behind and back side.”
2. “That every women has ‘mothers instict’. Like the second I hear a baby scream-crying I want to throw it out from the window – or just jump out if it myself.”

3. “The “WoMen nEvEr gET AloNg wItH eAcH OtHEr” mindset is honestly the most infuriating stereotype I hear about women. Like really? We just all hate each other and never get along? Uh ok, sure.”
4. “The uterus is harmed when women drive.”
5. “Stuff about our periods in general. Like if we’re mad, it’s definitely because we’re on our period. We never have a legitimate reason to be upset. Also myths like we’re able to hold in our period or we only have it for a day or that we’re impure. The impure one definitely infuriates me. I just think about the billions of women throughout history, and sometimes even today, being treated as if they’re impure or an evil omen because of a bodily function they cannot control.”
6. “That being a feminist means you think women are better than men or that you are a man hater.”

7. “That females are not good at video games. Or that they have a male friend who is boosting them to their current rank (if it’s higher than theirs). And then when they find out you’re actually better than them they try to deny it.”
8. “That I, a WOMAN in science, am intellectually inferior to my male counterparts. The notion that my ‘wittle girl brain’ surely can’t comprehend the complexities of my field is completely unfounded. Bitch please. I science like a boss!”
9. “Anything about being emotional/hysterical. Not only does it dismiss/invalidate real feelings, but I’ve seen men be extremely irrational and hysterical over basically nothing.”

10. “The biggest myth about women is that we don’t need pockets! For real! Give us fucking pockets that can actually hold something besides chapstick.”

11. “That women don’t watch porn or aren’t as horny as men. A lot of guys I’ve known are genuinely surprised that women watch porn or get as horny as them. Also, they say that women are ‘sluts’ for being horny but still jerk off like every day. It’s a hypocritical double standard that we should all get over.”
12. “I’ve always been rather annoyed about the ‘clingy woman’ stereotype of heterosexual relationships. The one where we are the ones pushing for relationships to go faster or to commit more. In my experience, my female friends are just as likely to complain about a guy being clingy/needy/pushy. That’s a gender stereotype that just doesn’t match up to real life in my experience.”
13. “That we can’t be the logical type.”
14. “When I read this the first one that leapt out to me is the bizarre myth that everything we wear, make up we use, hairstyle, everything we say, etc is some how in service of appearing more attractive to men.”

15. “That having multiple partners can stretch our vaginas and make us loose.”
16. “From what I’ve read on the Internet there are an alarming number of men who think that having a period is like peeing, where we can hold in the blood until we choose to let it go. That’s…not how that works.”
When does it stop? When do we move on from this?
