Misogyny is available in abundance in the rabbit hole of the social media universe. You won’t even have to dive deep within; it’s there, right on the surface. Vast and unending. One scroll on your feed, and you’ll spot many ‘hot-takes’ from dudes on the Internet who’re scandalised and offended by a woman with an opinion or an independent choice she may have made for HER own life.

You see, offence comes easy. And if you’re a public figure and your life is under constant surveillance, the comments become harsher and even more incessant. People will dissect your decisions related to YOUR personal life that you may choose to share and then question your entire being as a woman. I mean, just look at these 10 of the most basic things women celebrities have been trolled for, over the years:

1. For choosing to get engaged young cos ‘it’s way too soon’
A lot of people hating on Millie Bobbie Brown for getting engaged at 19

But this is what we should be celebrating & normalizing.
Finding a soul mate young & sticking it out with them is 1000x more fulfilling than a life of meaningless dates & casual sex
I wish this for all pic.twitter.com/mN5siRzyHj
2. For exploring options before settling down to one person cos ‘heaven forbid a woman wants to date casually’
outraged over the hate Deepika is getting and ppl will say bro it's just koffee with Karan it's not that deep but it LITERALLY IS ??! that outrage is the representation of rampant misogyny and unjust double standards faced by woman in society

3. For being a woman, but the world doesn’t consider you ‘real’ enough
4. For marrying a man who once had a serious relationship with someone teen years ago cos ‘the world can’t move on’
not people telling hailey bieber of all people to “move on” but the same people spent four months hating on her over a relationship that ended over a decade ago, and they’re playing in HER face about her OWN husband telling her to move on 😭😭

5. For being supportive of your boyfriend cos ‘you are responsible for his failures’
Shame on people for trolling @AnushkaSharma non-stop. Have some compassion. She has always only given me positivity pic.twitter.com/OBIMA2EZKu

6. For marrying someone with a similar financial and social stature cos ‘the world likes to label women gold diggers’
men have nothing but the audacity, imagine calling THE mahira khan a gold digger, y’all really have bird food for brains istg

7. For trying to move on with life cos ‘you don’t look sad enough’
8. For wanting to experiment with fashion cos ‘it’s too distracting for men’
Chetan Bhagat is so SICK fr. like what about a woman's BODY is distracting?? are yall out of your goddamn minds?? https://t.co/76Lfi4ihKl

9. For separating from her partner cos ‘she robbed him of his money’

10. For posting a throwback picture cos ‘it’s a calculated move to steal another woman’s thunder’
And that’s not all. Over the years, they’ve been trolled for putting on weight, for losing weight, for getting pregnant before marriage, for not getting pregnant right after marriage, for dating someone young, dating someone old, for adopting a child, for moving on, for getting emotional, for not shedding a tear, for having an opinion, for not wanting to give one, for sharing too much, for not sharing anything at all… you see, at this point, logic has left the chat, and it’s just incels and their obsessive need to start the hate parade for just about anything. It’s like the world has lost the plot and seeking reasons to be offended, cos heaven forbid women have free will and they exercise it.
