Saif Ali Khan is one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood. He has come a long way from his charming boy-next-door roles to many gritty performances. But even junior nawab has faced his share of online trolls. The Laal Kaptaan star was once even accused of buying a prestigious national award.
In 2010, Saif won a Padma Shri, the fourth-highest Indian civilian award for his contribution to Indian cinema. However, soon enough some rumours started doing rounds which suggested that he had actually paid to get the award.
Saif spoke about the same during his appearance on Arbaaz Khan’s chat show, Pinch. The actor reacted to a comment that read, ‘Two-bit thug who bought a Padma Shri, named his son Taimur, beat up some people in a restaurant’.
“So, two-bit thug, I am not. Everything else is true,” Saif joked. He added, “‘Bought a Padma Shree’ is also not true, I mean, it’s a bit beyond me to bribe the Indian government. You will have to ask more senior people.” Here’s the video:
It is almost unbelievable how people come up with such wild theories. Kudos to Saif for not taking offence and making light of the subject.
Saif Wanted To Return His Padma Award
Back in 2010 when Saif was honoured with Padma Award, he didn’t want to accept it. He explained why: “But I thought I don’t want to accept it. There are so many senior actors in the industry who deserved it even more than me and had not gotten one and it was very embarrassing. And of course, there are some people who have it, I feel deserve it less than me also.” However, after having a conversation with his father, the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, he decided to accept the honour.
While Saif stays away from social media, trolls still find a way to create drama for the actor. Kinda cool that he has the ability to not pay heed to any of it!
