Vaani Kapoor always manages to surprise us with her versatile choice of roles and we love that about her. We’ve been rooting for her ever since her debut movie, Shuddh Desi Romance in 2013. She’s worked in Befikre, Bell Bottom and a few other movies since, but if we’re being honest, it’s her latest movie, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui that has impressed us the most. In the film, Vaani plays the role of a trans woman who is tired of people constantly judging her for her personal choices. The film is a huge hit and netizens cannot stop talking about her acting skills. In a recent interview, the Befikre actress got candid about finally being taken seriously and here’s what she said.
While talking to a leading daily, Vaani revealed, “Everywhere, people would say, ‘You dance really well’, and I would be like, ‘I also act’. Maybe I don’t get (enough) meaty parts to showcase (my acting skills). I am not trying to be immodest here and say ‘I know how to act’ and of course, it’s also the director (Abhishek Kapoor) who has presented me in a certain way in this film, and it worked.”
She also added that with the rise in women-centric movies, actresses are finally getting good roles to portray. But, she also pointed out, “It’s a long way to go where audiences need to give such films a chance, and give it enough so that the box-office numbers don’t look shabby, for the makes to have the courage to cast and make more films which are driven by women, or give them meatier parts.” We totes agree with her. The audience is finally beginning to appreciate women-driven films, but there’s a long way to go.
As for Vaani, we’re eagerly waiting to watch her in Shamshera opposite Ranbir Kapoor next. The period drama is slated to release on March 18 this year. Here’s wishing the two all the very best for their movie! We’re sure it’s going to be an interesting watch.
