To mark their 33rd work anniversary, designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla shared pictures from the wedding of Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda. The designers mentioned that this was the first-ever wedding outfits they worked on and how grateful they were to the Bachchans for trusting them with every aspect of it.
Shweta Bachchan tied the knot in a lavish ceremony with businessman Nikhil Nanda in 1997. The couple has been married for 22 years now and has two children together – Navya and Agastya. So when Abu Jani and Sandeep Kholsa’s PR team shared the throwback pictures from Shweta’s wedding, the internet went on a trip down the memory lane. After all, it was one of the most iconic weddings from the 90s.
The PR team took to Instagram and shared the nostalgic pictures along with the caption: “The duo (Abu and Sandeep) channeled their devotion to detail into every aspect of the fabulous arrangements. Both the couture and the decor reflected the magic of their maximalist philosophy. For the wedding ceremony, they created ensembles that were a celebration of regal grace and handcrafted embroideries. Shweta Bachchan wore a velvet ghagra and blouse in maroon. Tiny booties embroidered in resham, badla and crystals filled the lehenga. A French net dupatta with a floral border completed the ensemble. And for the mother of the bride, Jaya Bachchan, an exquisite red bandhini ghagra sari with lavish floral zardozi embroidery. #33YearsOfAJSK”
Shweta Bachchan Nanda looks breathtaking in that beautiful red ensemble. After looking at Shweta’s wedding pictures, the netizens were quick to point out that the blushing bride bears an uncanny resemblance to her daughter Navya Naveli. What do you think?
Designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla shared on their Instagram what it was like for them to be a part of the big fat Indian wedding: “Jaya is like our sister and we are like Shweta’s mamas. We’ve known her and Abhishek since they were in their early teens, so doing this wedding went beyond work for us and it will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Nikhil and his family were very close to us and our first interiors project was redecorating their home. So this wedding meant a lot to us. It was the first event we ever got to design from end to end. We had a great time. It was a fantastic creative and emotional experience!”
For Shweta’s mehendi ceremony, the designers broke protocol and dressed the bride in white, which was quite unconventional back in the time.
This picture was posted on the designers’ official page with the caption, “1997: The Bride wore White! Shweta Bachchan exudes pristine grace in a spectacular floral veil and ornaments at her mehendi dressed in exquisitely intricate chikankari. A pathbreaking ensemble which made the statement that white is absolutely auspicious”
The designers’ team also shared pictures from Shweta’s sangeet ceremony along with the caption, “The sangeet was an ode to tradition at it’s glorious best. And the ensembles a tribute to classical elegance and craftsmanship. Shweta Bachchan wore a sumptuous gold brocade khinkhaab ghagra with gold zardozi vasli in a leafy tendril pattern.”
Shweta Bachchan is a socialite who is currently living in Delhi with her family. She is also a published author and runs a fashion line with designer Monisha Jaising.
