This statement defines most GenZ relationships, or as they say, “modern dating.” Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar is a modern love story that not only highlights how easy it is for youngsters to fall in love but also sheds light on the aftermath of “finding the one.” The film is definitely #RelatableAF for the youth but also something that your parents should watch.
Mickey (Ranbir Kapoor) is an ek amir baap ki aulaad and a breakup guru whose world revolves around his joint family and his best friend, Dabbas (Anubhav Singh Bassi). On a trip to Spain, he meets Tinni (Shraddha Kapoor) and falls in love at first sight. Just like in every Bollywood film, everything works out between them as quickly as their costumes change. That is until the families get involved. The free-spirited Tinni feels imprisoned in Mickey’s world, and guess what? She seeks advice from the breakup guru, who she has no idea is her boyfriend! This sets off a chain reaction of games, badla, and emotions.
Finally, Ranbir Kapoor Is In His Element
We finally see Ranbir Kapoor doing what he does best—romance and comedy. It has been a while since we have seen the actor in a mainstream rom-com, and this film reminded me how much I’ve missed seeing him in this avatar. His portrayal of Mickey will make you laugh, cry, and also drool! He is the perfect Dilli ka launda that any girl would desire, but somehow still falls victim to the modern breakup game.
A Rom-Com That Was Long Overdue
I had been craving a masaledaar Bollywood rom-com for a while, and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar satisfied that need. It made me laugh and cry at the same time. A film filled with over-the-top dance numbers, exotic locations, endearing costumes, and a signature airport ending. Luv Ranjan ticks all the boxes with this one!
So if you’re looking for something lighthearted, to relieve your stress, then book your tickets right away.
A Film Made For Everyone
While the film’s trailer made it appear to be more youth-oriented, it is actually a film that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. In fact, parents should watch it to understand the concept of “modern parenting.” Dimple Kapadia plays Ranbir’s mother, and she does it so well that every boy will be able to relate, and every girl will wish she had a mother-in-law like her!
Dabbas, played by Anubhav Singh Bassi, is a best friend everyone deserves. His friendship with Mickey is honest, straightforward, and believable. Definitely one of the best Bollywood family films I’ve seen in a long time.
The film focuses on common relationship issues and how most women are expected to “compromise.” It emphasises the value of family while also shedding light on the concepts of space and privacy.
Tinni’s decision to give up her love but not her freedom sends a message to every girl who feels compelled to make sacrifices in order to find love. And Mickey’s ability to prioritise while also considering Tinni’s needs is something that every young man in love should learn.
Ranbir & Shraddha’s Natural Chemistry
While Luv Ranjan and Rahul Mody’s sharp writing helps them pivot the movie seamlessly from comedy to drama, Ranbir and Shraddha must be praised for their impeccable acting. I was hooked onto the screen because every little detail of their relationship seemed so relatable. Their chemistry in both romance and conflict makes me wonder why no one thought of pairing these two before.
The Perfect Climax
I’m glad Luv Ranjan abandoned his signature “turning the heroine into an antagonist” formula and gave this film the (happy) ending it deserved. The climax will have you laughing out loud and possibly crying. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar will not disappoint if you’re a sucker for airport endings. If you’re looking for a breath of fresh air after a long day of work, then Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar is the perfect watch for you! Watch it with your family, with your partner, or with your friends.
In the end, it’ll make you want to manifest a life just like Mickey and Tinni’s!
