Which Is Better Tinted Or Untinted Sunscreen?

There is no better approach to avoid those damaging UV rays than with a good sunscreen. Daily sun protection is crucial, whether you’re indoors or outdoors.

Broadly speaking, everyone should opt for sunscreens with broad-spectrum protection (one which shields against UVB rays that burn and UVA rays that cause long-term damage) and an SPF of 30 or higher. But do you pick tinted or untinted sunscreen? What makes tinted sunscreen different from a regular one? Which is better? We have compared the two below.

What Is A Tinted Sunscreen?

Tinted sunscreen uses iron oxides such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which are mineral particles that have been demonstrated to filter not only UV rays but also blue light emitted by your gadget screens. Mineral-based sunscreens, on the other hand, leave a chalky white film on the skin – think of a lifeguard with a distinctive white spot on his nose and mouth. To avoid this, today’s mineral-based sunscreens include pigments in a variety of hues. As a result, tinted sunscreen is now available in practically every colour, meaning you can pick one as per your skin tone.

What Is Untinted Sunscreen?

These sunscreens will not offer a skin-like tint to cover up blemishes or to correct uneven skin tone. Untinted sunscreens can belong to both the physical or chemical sunscreen category.

My favourite untinted sunscreen is the POPxo H2O Booster Sunscreen Gel because it leaves no white cast behind and feels super soothing on my skin.

Why Is Tinted Sunscreen More Effective Than Untinted Sunscreen?

The main advantage of tinted sunscreen over regular sunscreen is that it protects your skin from both ultraviolet rays and blue light. Blue light has been shown to create oxidative stress on your skin even after brief exposure, which can lead to early wrinkles, dark spots, and other signs of ageing.

Benefits Of Tinted Sunscreens

Tinted sunscreens are simple to blend into your skin and offer excellent blemish and dark spot coverage. Applying this sunscreen will give you an even skin tone. Simply said, tinted sunscreens can serve as a light foundation for an airbrushed appearance.

One of my favourite tinted sunscreens that suits all skin tones and skin types is the Lotus Herbals Safe Sun 3-in-1 Matte-Look Daily Sunscreen.

How To Use Tinted Sunscreens

Tinted sunscreens can be applied the same way as regular sunscreens, except they allow you to skip a full foundation base if desired. I like to cleanse and care for my skin thoroughly before applying a tinted sunscreen. I typically follow a simple CTM routine and then I squeeze out the tinted sunscreen along the lengths of two of my fingers. I then massage that amount of sunscreen on my face and neck.

Conclusion

Tinted sunscreens are more effective at protecting your skin indoors and outdoors than regular ones because they contain elements that block UV and blue light. Moreover, tinted sunscreens, which can be applied with or without regular foundation, give your skin a subtle hint of colour – that looks almost natural.

Whether you choose tinted sunscreen or not, always remember to wear SPF on a daily basis.
