Priyanka Chopra is all for speaking her mind lately and I am here for it. From speaking about how she was cornered in Bollywood to pay parity, she is not holding back. However, not everyone is on board with her no-filter comments. PC’s comment on making less than her male counterparts irked Dill Mill Gayye star Pankit Thakker and he has a lot to say about it!
Allow me to give you a little context. During the Citadel promotions, Priyanka shared that she received equal pay for the first time in 22 years. She said, “I also didn’t expect it, when my agents told me, ‘You’re playing a co-lead, let us go and talk to Amazon about getting you parity'”
In all honesty, I am all game for Priyanka spilling the tea about pay parity in Bollywood and Hollywood. But Pankit didn’t agree with PC’s hot take.
In an interview, Pankit said, “I think it is an extremely cheap way to promote yourself and your projects. She is forgetting that in all the successful films that she has done, right from her debut film Hero to Krissh to Don, people have gone to theatres to watch either Sunny Deol or Hrithik Roshan or SRK, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan or Ranbir Kapoor. They didn’t go to watch those films because Priyanka was the lead in it.” Pankit also called her “Fake” and “Disgraceful.”
IMO, Pankit’s statement about Priyanka reeks of sexism. Saying that Priyanka had no part to play in her successful films is unfair. She is a very talented actress, so it isn’t unusual for her to ask for her worth. Seriously, what’s the harm? She is only talking about some of the most pressing issues in the entertainment biz. More importantly, she is Priyanka Chopra. She doesn’t need cheap tactics to promote herself!
I am on board with Priyanka’s honest take on pay parity. Pankit definitely needs to re-evaluate his skewed take on the topic!
