Having a sibling is like having a constant companion through all the small and big moments of your life, but being the only child comes with some perks too. I say this with confidence because I am an only child. And I love it. Sure, I love the attention but there’s more than that when it comes to being a single child. So, here is a list of things that actually happen when you’re a single child!
1. You get all the attention!
Read: You are very pampered. If mom disagrees with something, dad will agree. If dad doesn’t, your grandfather will. You get the drift. Basically, someone definitely will come to your rescue because they don’t want to see their only child sad. *smug face*
2. Your house, your rules!
Since you’re the only kid in the house, your parents will have to agree with you. So if you want to listen to loud music or want your boyfriend to come over, your folks will eventually give in!
3. You don’t have to share your room or bed with anyone.
Sleep diagonally or sleep on the floor. Sleep with the lights on. Or watch a movie without headphones at all. It’s blissful, to be honest.
4. You are always on the radar.
While you get your parents’ undivided attention to get things done, you also get it when you step out. So, I mostly end up with 20 calls from my mom until I get home. (I am not complaining!). You’re always on their mind.
5. The remote is yours and yours alone!
Want to watch a rom-com or a superhero movie? There is nothing that can stop you!
6. You don’t have to worry about that last piece of cake in the fridge.
No one is going to take it. It’s yours until you decide to give it away!
7. You hate to share things!
Since you have been accustomed to having things to yourself all your life, you don’t like sharing things with anyone. Even with kids who are younger to you!
8. You get to catch up on your sleep on Raksha Bandhan
Since you don’t have anyone to go to, you take this day off and do your thing! This year, try something different. Catch up with your Veere and tie them a rakhi! Good idea, isn’t it? Because your friends are your siblings when you don’t have one!
9. You feel jealous at times!
You are so used to all the attention in life that you get jealous easily if your parents give too much attention to your friends. I mean you want them to like your friends but not so much. You know?
