“The days are long, but the years are short.”
It’s hard to believe that some of the Bollywood divas have been ruling the screens for over a decade now. So much has changed since then! Their place in the industry, the kind of roles they used to do, and even their style.
I recently stumbled upon an old picture of Deepika Padukone from the Om Shanti Om days and it is impressive how far she has come. The intense nostalgia led me to look up old pictures of other Bollywood fashionistas and compare them with their recent looks. Yes, this will leave you with a lot of feelings. Scroll down:
Deepika Padukone
Deepika made her Bollywood debut in 2009. The film was a roaring success and all eyes were on Deepika. She made the most of the limelight with stellar, show-stopping looks. Take, for instance, her off-shoulder black gown from the Miss India Finale 2009. The subtle fishtail silhouette looks great on her! The kundan jewels have me on the fence though. Now compare the look with Deepika’s recent Academy Awards outting. The actress treaded the Oscars 2023 red carpet in a black Louis Vuitton gown featuring an exaggerated fishtail. DP clearly learned from her mistakes and swapped her 2009 kundans for a statement Cartier tourmaline necklace! Love it!
Alia Bhatt
Alia has always loved her share of white. How she styles the hue has changed though. Alia was young and a little lost in the fashion department in 2012 when she made her debut. Take, for instance, her promotion look which is lukewarm at best. The ivory jacket doesn’t really go with the printed white mini and I am not a fan of her creased sleeves. Cut to 2023 and NO ONE slays a white look like Alia! The actress claimed the hue during her Gangubai Kathiawadi promotion days and has given us endless ways to style it. Not complaining!
Katrina Kaif
Katrina looked gorgeous but hardly fit back in 2003 when she made her Bollywood debut with Boom. Her picture from this old photoshoot is proof. But look at her now! Katrina’s killing it in that red Anita Dongre saree. I love the contrasting green stones in her jewellery and how she is making that saree work.
Shraddha Kapoor
While Shraddha Kapoor made her Bollywood debut with the critically acclaimed Teen Patti in 2010, it was Aashiqui 2 in 2013 that put her in the limelight. Even back then, you could trust the actress with starting a saree trend! Even I wore a sea-green chiffon saree inspired by her viral look for my college farewell. LOL! In 2023, Shraddha once again broke the internet with her satin-chiffon saree in the exact same hue! She clearly knew what she was doing.
Priyanka Chopra
For starters, 2000 Priyanka was a vibe and rightly so! She had just won the Miss World crown and film offers were pouring in. Everything looked right except for a few fashion choices like wearing bangles with her beach wear and topping it up with a bindi. Well, that’s one fashion faux pas that the now Priyanka will just not make. She is after all busy ruling international red carpets and giving us kickass beach looks while making the best of life in her LA home!
Anushka Sharma
Anuska’s 2009 pic is proof that she used to struggle with statement details like ruffles and pop colours (the shoes!). In 2023, I am mighty proud of how she has turned her weaknesses into strengths. I mean just look at how well she makes that neon saree work complete with a ruffled border and an OTT choker. One hell of a glow-up!
Kareena Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor was a trendsetter then and she is a trendsetter now! I love the purple-neon-green contrast in her 2003 lehenga. It’s a daring look, totally on brand for Bebo. I’m not a fan of how her gold and silver jewels clash though. Too much! Two decades later, one can’t dare to find a single flaw in her wedding guest look. Kareena was the best-dressed guest at the #RaLia wedding and I’m yet to get over her dreamy Manish Malhotra saree. 10/10!
Well, the B-town divas have surely aged like fine wine. Next time someone tries to insinuate that ageing is a bad thing, show them these pics of their style evolution!
