When it comes to concealing under-eye shadows, Instagram is a fountain of knowledge. From the wonderful blush hack that blends out dark circles seamlessly to the weird DIYs, the app is chock-full of tips and tricks to help you hide all those bags. This week, nothing has gone viral quite like the white concealer hack. Think back to the 2000s and the beginning of mainstream contouring. The Spice Girls would layer their foundation over the top of pale concealer to brighten up their under-eyes. Well, the ‘00s-inspired beauty trend has been back with a bang thanks to the peeps on Instagram.
The hack shows people forgoing the traditional skin-toned complexion product and using a stark-white version instead to rock perfectly blended and highlighted under eyes. The magic trick gives a wide-awake look and dispels any dullness from the centre of the face. So, if you’re up for a little eye-brightening action, keep scrolling to know how to hop on the trend wagon.
2000s-Inspired White Concealer Hack That’s Become Insta-Famous
Step 1: Colour Correct
If you have prominent dark circles, start out by applying a colour corrector first. In case you’re looking for a long-lasting colour corrector that won’t bleed your bank account, you can go for LA Girl HD Pro Conceal. Not only does the brush tip make application a breeze, but the product is formulated to provide natural-looking coverage for hours at a time. Use it under your eyes and blend it out using your finger.
Step 2: Apply An Ultra-White Concealer
After blending the colour corrector, grab a white concealer and apply it to the inner corner of your eyes, as well as to the outer third. For a true brightening effect, the concealer would need to be in a more concentrated area, not spread across a large surface.
Step 3: Blend It!
Next, use a blending brush to blend white concealer, following your normal concealing direction- down the sides of the nose and out towards the hairline. At this point, you have to trust the process because you might be convinced that this hack is not going to work. Our first tip would be to control how far you blend out the concealer. While following your normal technique when using concealer, make sure you don’t blend the colour too low onto your cheeks or too high into your hairline.
Step 4: Set Your Concealer
You can then set your concealer with a skin-toned pressed powder, and then you’ll see what the hype is all about. While using the powder, we recommend blending from the lowest point of the face upwards, closer to the under the eye. If you start directly under my eye area, this might take away some of the brightening effects of the white concealer so make sure to blend in the right direction. Begin by blending the powder from the bottom of your cheeks upwards, towards the inner corners of your eye. This will help create a beautiful gradient that will make the stark white concealer under your eyes look almost, dare we say, natural!
