Vidya Balan has always been praised for her daring film choices. Her work as a grief-stricken sister in No One Killed Jessica was phenomenal. In Kahaani, she played a pregnant woman searching for her missing husband. And once again, she impressed us all. Vidya has infused life in every single of her roles. But her fans still argue that nothing beats Vidya’s performance in The Dirty Picture and we have to second that.
The Dirty Picture was a fictional retelling of South Indian actress Silk Smitha’s story. Vidya played the title role to absolute perfection as she went unabashedly bold on the screen. The movie was also applauded for its realistic take on the film industry and the BTS mechanics of Indian cinema. It was an eye-opener and we hear that there’s a part 2 in the making now.
The buzz has it that producer Ekta Kapoor has brought screenplay writer Kanika Dhillon on board for the script and they are hoping to finish it by the end of this year. While everyone’s hella excited to see what the sequel has in store, we’re also wondering about the lead actress.
The stakes riding on the film are high and only a power-packed performer can do justice to the role. A little birdie has told us that Kangana Ranaut was the first choice for the film. However, the Manikarnika actress is not keen on playing the role and has reportedly turned it down. But fret not ‘coz things still look promising as both Taapsee Pannu and Kriti Sanon have shown interest in the part.
We hear the new film will have nothing to do with the previous storyline. But, like part one, this too will be another bold story of a powerful woman. Well, it’s safe to say that both Taapsee and Kriti have what it takes to ace the role.
