2. Queen Elizabeth II returning from Kenya following the death of her father, King George VI, and her accession to the throne.

She left as a Princess but returned as a Queen. It was early 1952, when Princess Elizabeth was in Kenya for the tour of the Commonwealth, along with her husband Prince Philip, when the news of her father, King George VI’s death arrived. Because she wasn’t carrying a black dress on the trip, she had to wait in the plane to wear a suitable outfit before taking her first steps into the UK as the Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms.

It’s no secret that Princess Diana was papped everywhere she went. This one, in particular, was when she was on a Mediterranean holiday in July 1997 with her then-boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed and her sons Princes William and Harry. A month later, she tragically died in a fateful car accident.
