As a fan of the supernatural genre, I was hella curious about Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal that released on Voot recently. I finally got a chance to watch the episode late last night and I am cringing hard right now. The show features popular telly stars Karan Kundrra as Veer, Gashmeer Mahajani as Armaan and Reem Shaikh as Esha in the lead roles. But even they couldn’t save it.
Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal was supposed to be India’s answer to International supernatural drama. But the truth is— it is just a frame-by-frame copy of The Vampire Diaries. Don’t believe me? Allow me to show the receipts!
Elena-Damon-Stefan Trio Turns Into Esha-Veer-Armaan
The most iconic thing about The Vampire Diaries was its messy love triangle featuring Elena, Damon and Stefan. Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal has done the same with Esha playing Elena, Veer who is representing Damon and Armaan as Stefan. The only stark difference is instead of vampires now we have werewolves.
Dialogues? Cut, Copy & Paste
Remember how iconic The Vampire Diaries’ dialogues were? From Elena’s monologue about her parents’ death to Damon’s ‘Hello brother,’ everything pulled the show together. Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal has the same dialogues without even a single change. I truly believe you can watch the first episode to learn English to Hindi translation.
Witches To Yoginis? Matlab Kuch Bhi!
My favourite character Bonnie from TVD also made her way to Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal as Mahek. Unlike Bonnie, Mahek’s superpower is yoga and meditation. But will these skills help her survive the dark world of werewolves? I highly doubt it.
Can We Get Better Special Effects At Least?
While it has been over a decade since The Vampire Diaries Season 1 dropped on television, its special effects continue to impress fans. The same can’t be said about Tere Ishq Mei Ghayal. The show’s graphic and special effects take away from the story and some of the action sequences are just not impressive. While Karan, Gashmeer and Reema did their best to save the show, the production is a let down.
TBH, I see a lot of potential in Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal and it has a great cast. All they need to do is step away from being a copy-paste version of The Vampire Diaries and explore original storylines. The show can dive deeper into the supernatural world and deliver some impressive visuals.
While Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal was underwhelming, it was a delight to watch Karan and Gashmeer on-screen. Catch all the action on Voot or Colors TV at 9 pm.
