Taylor Swift has descended upon Instagram with an album roll-out — every picture a testament to her limitless evolution as an artist. Her new album, Midnights, sees her at her most visually daring. A three-second sneak-peek into the first of her album’s MVs, which was released just yesterday, reveals a razor-sharp cat-eye boasting show-stopping ambitions — appareled in multi-coloured jewels, it swarms with heavy-handed flicks of colour and glitter — whittling itself into a man-slaughtering weapon sans any remorse or emotion. Turns out — this was just one look floating around amongst an array of head-swiveling aesthetics displayed in the Bejeweled MV.
Pat McGrath, the artist to whom Taylor entrusted her lids for the video, posted a snippet of the look on her Instagram — which now abounds with compliments from well-wishers as well as requests for a tutorial. Pat McGrath shared a couple of details about the creation of the look, and it involved evolving Taylor’s eyelids into a canvas on top of which the colour and glitter were to flourish. The MUA patted a soft-focus, serum-soft foundation and concealer for the base — light and luminous, it was punctuated by the rosiest of flushes on the cheeks. The eyelid was saturated with shades of silver, purple, brown, and platinum — all blended into one another to create a shimmery, show-stopping look.
A sharp cat-eye, then, asserted itself along the lids. McGrath enriched the aesthetic by embellishing the inner and outer corners as well as the eyelids with rhinestones and gems. Taylor’s classic blood-red lips concluded the aesthetic, and a gemstone-encrusted headpiece contained the platinum-blonde of her hair. The lips were set with a mix of brown and red matte-textured lip pencils as well as a coating of a creamier liquid-based red lipstick.
The singer-songwriter has been gunning for another title: Best Nails. Swift recently shared visuals of a manicure she DIYed, on Instagram. The head-swivelling aesthetic displayed a sprawling assemblage of stars reclining atop splashes of black or blue — the theme was in sync with ‘Midnights’, and was modelled on short, squoval-shaped nails.
This MV spotlights another manicure — and this one’s elaborate. Almond-shaped tips have been clothed in glitter and gold, and rhinestones and gems have made their acquaintance strongly.
