Each one of Taylor Swift’s appearances is a call-back to her albums. Even when you’re not listening to Red or Midnights, you’re thinking of Swift’s songs. Because she’s always promoting them through her lips, eyes, or hair. She’s a Mastermind.
Depending on the theme of her ongoing album, she adjusts her looks to capture their feel. Here are some moments that I believe absolutely synced the two elements. And, yes, the 2023 Grammys are a part of this list!
Midnights: She Truly Is Midnight Rain
Taylor Swift’s icy-blue eyeshadow leaned into the darkness and intrigue of Midnights. She painted her nails blue and even featured a throat-cutting cat-eye, an ode to Vigilante Shit‘s lyrics, “Draw the cat-eye sharp enough to kill a man.” See how everything connects? I’ve always thought of Swift as a genius.
This palette by E.L.F Cosmetics features the iciest of blues along with earthy, warm shades that glitter or mattify. Each one’s buildable, blendable, and rich.
Folklore: If Cardigan Were A Person…
Before Midnights, there was Folklore, a poetic, somber, and reflective album. At the 2020 ACM Awards, the songwriter opted for a soft brown-pink lip. Swift sported a romantic, effortless low-bun. Even the bangs were styled into lightly-curled waves and I credit my obsession with barely-there glamm to her.
These looks were pared-down and dream-like. Nothing like the next one.
Lover: Ladies & Gentlemen, Will You Please Stand?
Lover was colourful, romantic, and vibrant and by default, so was Taylor. The 33-year-old songwriter wore a glittery hue of blue on the lids in this one and pulled the hair back into a Barbie-like ponytail too. And, yes, the ruby-red lips remained.
MyGlamm’s Treasure IT range features a ruby-red shade called Date Night that’s intensely bold and pigmented. It’s enriched with ingredients like Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter too so your lips don’t dry out!
Reputation: Look What You Made Her Do
Reputation symbolised Taylor’s rebirth as an artist. She painted the lips the darkest shade of red like she had in the Look What You Made Me Do video. The cat eye was bold and dramatic. The hair was let down in waves too.
Fearless: Forever & Always, Taylor’s Best
Fearless captured Taylor’s youth and innocence. From the signature side parted curls, to gloss-tinted lips and lightly flushed cheeks, she was young and glowing, and she showed it.
This lip-plumping gloss by M.A.C is soft and sheer. It’s high-shine, non-sticky, and ideal for soft-glam looks.
Bottom-line is that Taylor knows what she’s doing. Her hallmarks, like the bangs and blood-red lipstick, are signature to her aesthetic. It’s interesting to see how she has worn at least one of them while serving different beauty looks.
