Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know all about the hullaballoo Tamannaah Bhatia has created on social media. For Lust Stories 2, Tamannaah broke her 18-year-old ‘no kissing’ policy and even shared an intimate scene with Vijay Varma. It was the first time that Tamannaah showed off her bold side in a film. While I loved how the Babli Bouncer actress went all out with the role, not everyone was pleased.
The actress received a lot of hate for taking up such a bold role but she just doesn’t give a hoot.
Tamannaah opened up on the hate she is getting for Lust Stories 2 in an interview. She said, “The misogyny is so stark in my face and I was hoping that by 2023 that would not be the case but this time around if felt really stuck primarily because when I started becoming an actor, I was still dancing and looking glamorous. It wasn’t like I had a non-glamorous image and all of a sudden it has turned into something. I just found it strange that even in 2023 why does a female actor need to have this definition of she can? If she is doing intimacy, it is a personal attack.”
Tamannaah argued that there are double standards when it comes to male and female actors doing intimate scenes. The Himmatwala star said only a woman’s character is questioned after an intimate scene. Tamannaah shared, “They (male stars) become superstars but an actress all of a sudden is a bad character which makes no sense. I can’t wrap my head around it. I realised that for me, after 18 years, if I had to stick to my comfort zone, I could have very well done all kinds of commercial films. That’s the easiest route. For me, I came to a point where I have to grow as an artist.”
I second Tamannaah completely! The Indian audience love to categorise actresses into different boxes. The moment someone tries something new or bold, she is slammed on social media. Tamannaah’s decision to take up a bold role like this surely stirred things up.
Dear Tamannaah, you don’t have to justify your career choices. You were brilliant in Lust Stories 2 and anyone who has a problem with that can simply avoid watching the series on Netflix.
