Swara Bhasker is known to be bold, curt and outspoken. Not only does she strongly profess what she believes in but is also very vocal about her views and opinions. Labelled as ‘bold’ and ‘strong’, Swara has always handled meme-makers and trolls with utmost ease. Recently, the actress was questioned and shamed for her masturbation scene in Veere Di Wedding. And like all times, she shut down haters with sheer brilliance.
Are you wondering where she gets all that courage from? Apparently, it runs in the family. Swara’s mom Ira Bhasker emerged as Mother India to slam all trolls on her daughter’s masturbation scene.
Mother dearest said, “Let me begin by saying that sexuality per se in Indian cinema is not a subject that has been directly expressed. A lot of the articulation was done through song. Emotional articulation. Articulation of what is tabooed. Sexuality and eroticism.”
She further added, “From very metaphoric and symbolic articulation, there is a movement towards much more direct articulation. For example, if you look at Veer Zaara, the Tere Liye song sequence, it is very clear it is yearning. But in films like Fire, like Lipstick Under My Burkha and now Veere Di Wedding (it’s different). Or something like Anarkali of Aarah. Here is a woman who enjoys her performance. She is sexually active. She makes no qualms about what she wants. Her choice and agency is very important.”
What do you have to say now, trolls?!
