Here’s How To Stop Your Mascara From Flaking Once And For All

Mascara-induced panda eyes. DW, we have all been there! There’s nothing more annoying than those flaky chunks that find their way underneath your eyes, onto your cheekbones, and then ruin the rest of your makeup.

While most of us think that mascara is the real culprit. However, it can actually be caused by a range of other factors – all of which can be fixed – yay! From genius hacks that prevent flaking to makeup formulas that mess with your face beat – here’s how to stop your mascara from acting up.

What Causes The Mascara To Flake?

While mascara flaking can be caused by a myriad of factors, the most common cause is the product itself. Sometimes, flaking can occur because you’re using a fairly dried-out formula. Other times, it can occur ‘coz the formula isn’t hydrating enough, or when the product is running low. This is indicative of the fact that you need to send your six-month-old mascara to the trash, boo. In addition to this, make sure you let each coat of mascara dry before you apply another, this will help to prevent flaking.

Here’s How To Stop Mascara From Flaking

#1: Make Sure Your Brush Is Clean

If you want to apply your mascara seamlessly, it’s important to keep your mascara brush clean of any gunk or dried-out product that might be clinging to it. Cleaning is mascara brush is key to preventing flaking.

#2: Invest In Hydrating Formulas

When scouting a new mascara formulation, look for products that contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid that are known to nourish dry and brittle lashes.

#3: Put The Cap Back On

When you’re applying the mascara, make sure you put the cap back on after using it. This should be followed even in between applying to lashes. Keeping it open causes more air to get inside the tube, which can dry out the formula.

#4: Your Lashes Should Be Dry

The most important thing to prevent flaking is to ensure that your lashes are free of any makeup or skincare products or water even.

#5: Your Eye Cream Might Be Too Heavy

Yup, the oil as well as humectants from your eye cream can mix with the oils and heat from your skin and make its way towards the mascara. It doesn’t take long to break down the ingredients of your mascara which leads to flaking and smudging.

#6: You Don’t Use A Lash Primer

Lash primer is a holy-grail product that not only conditions your lashes but helps give them a long-lasting lift and volume. It also helps to prevent flaking. All you need to do is apply a coat of lash primer, let it dry completely, and then apply mascara.

#7: Don’t Pump The Wand Too Much

Raise your hand if you get carried away while applying mascara and tend to overpump your wands into the tube to get more product. Same, pal, same. However, this practice should be working against you as in this way you’re pushing more air into the tube, which will dry the product out.

#8: Don’t Apply Too Many Coats

Apply 2 to 3 coats of mascara. In case you are pressed for time, at least let the lashes become semi-dry before applying the next coat.

After following these hacks your mascara is still smudging, now is the time to blame the mascara!
