It’s About Damn Time You Start Applying Your Foundation With A Spatula

Do away with your sponges and blenders — the Internet is abounding with snippets of influencers buttering and massaging their skin with a shiny, sleek, light-catching apparatus to set the base of their makeup better. This hack is as perplexing as it is effective, and it is underscored by one of the most bizarre K-beauty inventions — a spatula. Yup. A foundation-dipped spatula, the Internet asserts, is one of the best tools to do your foundation with. What? I mean, yeah, the end result is stunning; with many enjoying the barely-there, second-skin finish for hours on end. And since many are attesting to its effectiveness, let’s just see what this viral makeup spatula hack is all about.

Nope — Not A Kitchen Spatula. A Makeup Spatula

What Does A Spatula Do Differently?

This method enables you to apply your foundation in one thin, smooth, crease-free layer — preventing you from caking your face and making your skin look blotchy or patchy. It promises you better coverage and one that will endow your skin with longer hours of makeup. Since you’re not applying the product in layers, you can enjoy the less-is-more finish too.

How Do You Use It?

All you have to do is transfer some of the product onto the back of your wrist, and glide the edge of the spatula across the hand to scoop up some foundation. Next — slide it sideways placing it vertically across one side of the face. Apply some at the bottom of the face, and glide it upward and outward so as to cover most of that side of the face in one application. Blend it all in with a brush or sponge, and you’re done. Since the spatula doesn’t absorb any foundation — unlike a blender and sponge — your base looks smoother and crease-free in comparison. You can do a side-by-side comparison to survey the results for yourself.

Many adoptees of the trend have recommended attempting the hack with a spoon — you can go over your face with the back of it or even use a knife — butter one, of course — if you don’t have a spatula.

The question is: are we trading in our sponges yet?
