When we first learnt Sonam Kapoor was expecting her first child with Anand Ahuja, we knew something epic was brewing in the maternity fashion department. Credits to the actor for setting the expectations so high with her announcement picture where she was spotted looking divine in a plunge neck bodysuit. It was safe to declare that this one intended to show off that glorious baby bump and had no plans to hide it under roomy kurtas and drop waist kaftans.

Rihanna has got nothing on Sonam at the moment who is busy living her best life and leaving behind a trail of stunning maternity looks. The latest of her sartorial wins involves the most sought after (also, done to death) pregnancy fit—a kaftan. However, Sonam has given the separate a new lease of life. Eschewing opaque cotton and silks, the actress has opted for a sheer fabric that highlights her baby bump. The Fil De Vie kaftan has been crafted in linen and features dramatic sleeves and artisanal embroidery in tonal chords. She has layered it with a scalloped bralette and tailored pants have been added to bring a sense of structure to the outfit.
Sonam has added finishing details with black stilettos and meenakari and polki earrings by her mom Sunita Kapoor. Keeping up with the sombre colour scheme, she has opted for intense eyes, black nails, and clean-swept hair. This is a bold look, the kind that few mommies-to-be dare to experiment with. That’s exactly what sets it apart. Just when the kaftan maternity look was beginning to get all hackneyed, Sonam has revitalised it by giving us a lesson in how to keep it equal parts statement and breezy.
