Sonam Kapoor and hubby Anand Ahuja or should I say, Sonam A Ahuja and Anand S Ahuja have completed one year of marital bliss today. The two tied the knot on May 8, 2018, in Mumbai in a traditional Sikh ceremony. Their Anand Karaj ritual took place at Rockdale, Sonam’s aunt Kavita Singh’s heritage bungalow, in Bandra.
The power couple met through a common friend, Pernia Qureshi, in 2014. Pernia was Sonam’s stylist at that time and was also good friends with Anand.
In a conversation with a magazine, Sonam shared details about her first date with Anand. The Neerja actress said, “I was apparently wearing the worst sneakers he had ever seen. I keep telling him that he fell in love with me despite my bad sneaker game… That day, walking and talking in London, I knew he was the love of my life. He apparently knew the first time we spoke on the phone… It was just so easy.”
For the longest time, Sonam abstained from talking about her relationship with Anand in public. But their public appearances together, vacations overseas, banter on Instagram and Anand’s regular appearances at Sonam’s family functions served as fodder for gossip mills. People wanted to know who was the lucky man Sonam is dating.
For those who still don’t know, Anand is the founder of Bhane, a well-known clothing brand and also the owner of VegNonVeg – India’s first multi-brand sneaker boutique.
The two remained tight-lipped about their relationship until the Kapoor family made a formal wedding announcement, “The Kapoor and Ahuja families take great joy and pride, in announcing the marriage of Sonam and Anand. The wedding will take place on May 8 in Mumbai. Since it is an intimate affair, we request you to respect the family’s need for privacy. Thank you for all your blessings and love as we celebrate this special moment in our lives.”
Sonam stole the show in a traditional red and gold lehenga by Indian designer Anuradha Vakil and changed four outfits in 12 hours. The wedding was a three-day extravaganza that saw who’s who of Bollywood clad in their most glam outfits.
