Don’t Skip The Moisturiser: 6 Beauty Blunders That Are Making Your Oily Skin Even Oilier

Don’t Skip The Moisturiser: 6 Beauty Blunders That Are Making Your Oily Skin Even Oilier

Only people with oily skin understand the constant struggle they go through. I’m talking about carrying blotting paper everywhere, constant breakouts and blackheads, and a shiny complexion that fails to cooperate no matter how much you try.

But here’s the thing, oily skin isn’t really your enemy even if it sometimes feels like it. Your skin needs a certain amount of oil to stay hydrated, nourished, and balanced. But too much of sebum production can be the reason for acne, pimples, and whiteheads. Hence, you’ve to look after your oily skin well, with caution and with mindfulness.

Even as you try your best to maintain a healthy skincare regime, there are some habits that could be doing more harm than good for your oily skin and we’re here to make you understand them.

Here Are 6 Habits That Could Actually Be Making Your Oily Skin Even Oilier

How many of these are you guilty of?

You’re Washing Your Face More Than Twice A Day

Okay, we get that your forehead looks like a country in the Middle East thanks to that huge dump of oil but overwashing your face is not the solution. Cleansing is just a short-term way to remove the oil on your face but in reality is stripping even the important hydration away. This makes the skin produce even more oil to replenish it and you get into an endless cycle. Stick to cleansing twice a day- once when you wake up and once at night.

You’re Overdoing The Salicylic Acid

Yes, salicylic acid is a magical ingredient for people with oily skin but you’ve to use it in moderation. While it does help exfoliate the skin and remove the dead layer of skin that can clog up pores, if used too much, it can parch the skin. In response, the body actually produces more oil, making your skin more oily and more acne-prone.

You’re Using Pore-Clogging Ingredients

When tackling oily skin, you have look at products from a very informed place. Any product that obstructs the oil gland, hair follicle, or pores increases the chances of breakouts and is not for you. Make sure your skincare products are labeled ‘non-comedogenic’ which means they won’t clog your pores or trap the oil underneath.

You’re Using Too Much Toner

Toners are miraculous, they pull out excess oil, dirt, and grease from the skin, leaving it feeling extra clean. But using harsh alcohol-based toners or astringent could be actually making your skin irritated, red, itchy, and tight. Because the skin needs to hydrate, it overcompensates with the oil production to replace it (this is clearly a trend). You can avoid toners because many dermats say its an unnecessary step but if the T in your CTM routine is important to you, find ones without alcohol.

You Aren’t Moisturising

If your skin is oily, you may think that it’s okay to skip a moisturiser but that’s actually not true. The product will add essential hydration to the skin, giving it the signal that it doesn’t need to go into overdrive with sebum.

You’re Dealing With Stress

Yup, stress doesn’t only affect your mental and physical health but also shows up on your skin (great, one more thing to worry about). When we’ve stressed our bodies produce an excess amount of cortisol, which causes a hormonal reaction that can lead to breakouts. We then cover it up with makeup and product causing our skin to further get clogged and break out even more. All of this adds even more stress and before we know it we’re in a vicious oily cycle. Taking time out for breathing exercises is crucial here.

Avoid these mistakes and say hello to gorgeous skin!
