Narcissist: A person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves.
At the start of a relationship, everything seems so rosy that you automatically ignore all red flags or refuse to accept them. But sometimes, these little things he does can tell you a lot about him and his personality. There are many ways to tell if you’re dating a narcissist. Don’t distrust everything he says, but keep a close eye on the details because a narcissist will never put you first – it will always be about him. And that is a toxic relationship that you need to get out of. So, if you see these few signs, then you’ll know that you need to run away and fast.
1. It’s ALWAYS About Them
From their wishes to their demands to their expectations, they only talk and think about themselves. You’re not anywhere on the list. In fact, you’re a second-class citizen in your own relationship. Nothing you want, do or ask is not important at all.
2. They’re Extremely Manipulative
A narcissist may be using you for an ulterior motive, one you may not even be able to see. Comments like “You’re so hot, I cannot wait to show you off” are a sign that something is going wrong.
3. You Feel Like You’re Being Taken On A Ride
Because you are. It’s your instinct telling you that something is wrong. Sometimes you’re too happy, sometimes it’s all depressing and his moods are so difficult to keep up with. Relationships can’t be that big of a roller coaster.
4. There Is No Accountability
There is no relation between his words and his actions. Even if he promises you something, he never follows through because he’s not a man of his words. Sometimes, even if he’s present physically, there is an emotional distance between you two. After all, if your wishes don’t matter, why will his promises?
5. It’s All About Instant Gratification
Since they’re all so self-centered and self-absorbed, it’s all about fulfilling their wishes and instantly. If you ever say no or refuse to do something, they’ll throw a fit and guilt you into doing what they want, without a thought to what it might mean to you.
6. Entitlement Is A Way Of Life
For narcissists, the expectation is that they’ll always be giving preferential treatment. The world revolves around them and so should you.
7. Nobody Is Good Enough
They’re always finding faults with everyone and everything. No co-worker is good enough, superiors don’t know what they’re talking about, subordinates are stupid, friends are annoying and family members irritate them. Do I need to say more?
8. They Want What They Want
Since they cannot stand not getting their way, they’ll use some tactics to get what they want, even if it comes at a cost. These tactics usually include (but aren’t limited to) anger, passive aggression and emotional manipulation.
9. There Are No Talks Of The Future
You’re always doubting your future with them. Even if you’ve been together for years, there are still no talks of a future together. They want to reap the benefits of intimacy without giving you what you want in return since it may require them to disturb the status-quo and that’s something they are not okay with.
