Samantha Ruth Prabhu is on top of her game at the moment. The Citadel actress is known not only for her on-screen performances but also for her excellent sense of style and luminous skin. A peek at her Instagram page tells me that some of the credit for her skin goes to her love for workouts. But the fitness enthusiast has also dabbled with skincare and is a fan of the Korean 10-step skincare routine!
But that’s not all. Like most of her contemporaries, the 35-year-old star also indulges in DIYs when she can. And her go-to ingredient is part of almost every desi girl’s household.
Samantha’s Favourite DIY Ingredient
The Shakuntalam star swears by sandalwood and often adds it to her DIY home remedies. And I can see why.
Sandalwood has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce irritation and redness on the skin. This ingredient works great for those who struggle with acne and eczema.
It also has antiseptic and astringent properties that can keep bacterial skin infections at bay and help tighten the skin, and make it appear smoother.
And finally, the ingredient also has antioxidants that help protect the skin from free radical damage, which is one of the main causes of premature signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles.
The Wild Organic Sandalwood Powder is great to use in DIYs for the skin.
How To Include Sandalwood In Your Routine
To tackle dark spots and inflammation:
Mix 1 tbsp of sandalwood powder with 1 tsp of turmeric powder in enough rose water to make a paste. Ensure the consistency is thick and not runny in texture. Apply it to your face and neck and wash it off after 20 minutes.
To exfoliate skin:
Mix 2 tbsps of sandalwood powder with 1 spoon of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. Massage this on your face for 2 minutes and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off.
To soothe irritated skin:
Mix 1 tbsp sandalwood powder with 2 tbsps of aloe vera gel (store-bought or natural). Apply it to your face for 15 minutes before washing it off.
And if you’re not a fan of DIYs but still want to add the ingredient to your routine,
The Manish Malhotra Sandalwood SPF 25 Gel is soothing and acts as an excellent moisturiser for summers.
The Gentle Cleansing Bathing Bar by Organic Harvest is a great way for the rest of your body to reap the benefits of this ingredient.
The Chandanam Face Mask is great for removing tan and brightening the skin.
My weekend self-care session is now in place, thanks to Samantha’s go-to ingredient!
