Back in 2012, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s wedding was the most anticipated one. Fans were eagerly waiting for their royal pictures, and well, they did not disappoint. How can we forget their iconic wedding portrait? Kareena dressed in a heavy gold-hued joda and Saif in a matching sherwani, giving major raja-rani vibes. Well, turns out the story behind that picture is even more iconic.
Ace photographer Avinash Gowariker who shot Saif and Kareena’s wedding portrait shared some interesting details and anecdotes. He revealed, “There are great wedding photographers doing great work. I don’t do that as such. I only do that when I have got a personal relationship and I come in there and do some portraits, fun shots.” He further said, “So Saif and Bebo, I did not do the full wedding, they wanted me to do that one portrait because that outfit is the same outfit what Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore had worn and Sharmila ji’s mother-in-law and Mansoor Ali Khan’s father had worn. So it’s the third generation wearing the same outfit and that pose also we recreated.”
Further, he shared how Bebo and Saif requested the photographer to recreate the same pose. He said, “Saif and Bebo requested that they want the same thing. It was very exciting for me to shoot. We shot it at Taj and the way they carried it, it’s just a memory. It’s a lovely picture, a portrait. It was of that royalty we were trying to recreate and there was no effort at all in that.”
For the portrait, Kareena had reworn her mother-in-law’s vintage sharara set. Sharmila Tagore wore it at her own nikah in 1962.
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s wedding was held in 2012. It was an intimate affair which was followed by a grand reception for the industry friends.
