Back in the day, Instagram was meant to be a photo-sharing platform while Twitter was used to share thoughts and opinions. Fast forward to 2021, social networking sites have become a source of hatred and negativity, especially for celebs. We’ve seen trolls spew hatred and target Bollywood celebrities way too often. In fact, even the few stars that are not on social media are often trending for all the wrong reasons.
Take Saif Ali Khan, for instance—in spite of not being on any social app, he’s often attacked by trolls. Last month, clips from his old interviews started doing the rounds on Insta, and now, the poster of his upcoming film Bhoot Police is being criticized. It makes us wonder—how exactly does he deal with all the negativity? While talking to a leading daily, Saif revealed an important piece of advice that his wife Kareena Kapoor gave him which he religiously follows.
He said, “I don’t read (troll comments). I am off it and it is really cool. Because it also helps me focus. It can get addictive, you know. I can google myself and start checking out what I said when and then I read something I don’t like and it spoils my mood. My wife told me, ‘you know what just stop doing it’.”
That’s not all, Saif also said, “There is something about social media which is so dangerous. There is so much anonymity you don’t know who is talking to whom. So people throw a lot of violence around and stuff like that. So it can get a little wrong.” Well, that’s one way to deal with trolls and we totes agree with Saif.
Dear trolls, before you click send on that awful text or that nasty comment, take a moment to understand its impact on one’s mental health. The world sure does not need this kind of negativity. Why not make social media a safe and peaceful place?
